I would be afraid to let them free range, they are so tiny!! Hope she turns up for you. Make sure you check around places where there is water (even if it's a puddle) and 'shelter' even if it is a patch of tall weeds. They usually like to lay near the water, so the babies can go right in once they hatch.
The male didn't seem upset at all, and I think he would be, she's his favorite.
She hides REALLY well, last time she was down in the woods under a clump of shrubs. I only found her cause the drake was standing guard over her at the time, and I saw him.
