Anyway, I have some bantam barred rock eggs in my bator already, I would just love to have some that were local!! The ones in my bator are doing well so far, they came from Virginia, and I have 9 or 10 of 12 that are still doing well on day 9ish, so as long as I don't kill them in the home stretch like I normally do, I should be okay!

A lot of my family is German Brethren - I just couldn't live that life, personally. It isn't the hard work, it's the "the Man is God's representative on Earth - so obey him in all things" part of it. :::snort:::: yeah, right, ask my hubby how well I "obey". Now, I've seen many men take that as meaning they need to love their families and care for them as God/Christ would.

I've also seen others (in my own family) who take it to mean that every female in his family should be in subjugation to him and serve him as their "master", and do everything he tells them to do. That particular relative doesn't like me very well
wink.png
the feeling is mutual. He takes every opportunity to quote mysogenistic scripture within my hearing, and I take every opportunity to show him what a Pr!ck I think he is.

He's convinced I'm going to burn forever because hubby and I lived together before marriage. I'm convinced he's gonna burn forever because he treats his family (all women - the poor things - his widowed mother, his wife and three daughters.) like they are slaves.

Example - we were all meeting up at Mesik (in Michigan) to camp and go mushroom hunting. His wife got food poisoning on the way up from Indiana - she was sick with a capital ICK. He said to her "You wanted to come up here to hunt mushrooms, so you are going to hunt mushrooms" he made that poor woman walk through the woods, up and down hills, bent over (puking every few steps) just so he could show he was the Master.

At my Grandmother's funeral (reception after) his wife brought him a plate full of food - he looked across the room to me and said loudly "Ahh, that's the way God ordained, the wife serving the husband." I looked across the room at my own husband fixing his OWN dang plate and yelled "Hey Honey, grab me a roll, will ya?"

There's a good article in there on DE - well, I think it's a good article cause it agrees with me

as opposed to the usual DE Cheerleading Party.

Also an article on Alternative Meat Birds.

Well, another wet day

My chicken run is swamped again. (and smelly
sickbyc.gif
)

Got three chickies that hatched last night, three more pipped today (the due date is today) and my 7 duckie eggs aren't quite due yet in there, so they got no action, but I got a lot more chicken eggs in there. These eggs are strictly top coop - none of George's have been set since the last batch.

My appleyard eggs were supposed to have been shipped out Tuesday, but haven't come yet - not sure what the problem is, probably the weather messed it up.

My khaki duck is on strike - I got one egg from her yesterday, but she's upset that she is locked up, so she hasn't been laying. Naturally, since I have to have two sets of eggs from her to ship.

Switched the meaties to Flock Raiser today. The 5 of them eat as much as 20 other chicks combined. I can tell that raising a lot of these cornish cross would be expensive. Yeah, the expense on a dual purpose (even caponized) would be perhaps as much, but it would be spread out over time and not so intensive (as in, put down the money NOW). Plus the dual purpose could free range and be fed less expensive feed, also. The food I give my dual purpose flock is less than half the cost of the flock raiser and chick starter.

Which reminds me, I got to fill feed bins today and bring in a bag of starter for the babies. Thank goodness I got the tack barn for holding feed before it goes into the bins - it is mouse free - one of the few places that is mouse free here
lau.gif
. I can stack bags and not have them eaten into. Although, I wish I had a freezer to put the chicken feed in, like I have one for the donkey feed - that would be sweet. I could buy chicken feed like four or five times a year then, save me trips, and get a bulk discount (more than I get now when I buy 10 bags at a time).

Well, Liberty Sale is today so I suppose there won't be many of you guys on here

Meri, you 're cracking me up! Sounds like your relative needs a good ol fashioned "Come ot Jesus" meeting behind the barn with someone with a board or two upside his head. I can't stand men who still have that medieval thinking, and do all I can to cheese them off at me for being so stupid as to treat someone like that.

I forgot that today was also the Swap in Frankfort, and just had to get some feed for the bunnies and the doves. Maybe next month I'll get to go to the Swap in Frankfort.

I have two hens gone broody know, setting on a total of 18 eggs! One has ten and the other has eight. Of the remaining 7 banty babies I got last week, I have one black silkie, one blue(not grey), 2 porcelain d'uccles, and 3 cochins.

I got my copy of Backyard Poultry today too. Already half way through it.

Probably not, they are usually too small. You can put some cotton in the bottom of the turner cups and lay the button egg on that, or try to wedge it down inside it.

Well, my darling son decided to let the chickens out of that dog cage again
somad.gif
Good thing is that I had most of them seperated already. I think he let 3 or 4 pullets and 2 roos out. I don't know how well I did yet, I guess they send you a check the following week. If I would have known that, I would have just dropped them off and left. I didn't buy anything, didn't have any money to. There was a trio of button quail that I was thinking of trying to get, but I passed on those. I don't have the room to seperate my buttons yet, and I couldn't have put them into the same cage that mine are in. There would have been blood shed for sure.

The good news is that I know I made at least $50 from my birds, and I'm pretty sure it was more. I saw one pair go for like $10 (maybe 2 pair), and then there were 3 or 4 pair that went for $25+. I don't know what the others brought, I didn't realize they were selling mine when those were done. Plus we came home with a dozen free eggs, one was from one of the pullets that I took, and the others were from various cages. Cris was getting on my nerves as usual, so I sent him on an egg hunt
big_smile.png
I think most are black astrolorps, but some are RIR I think. Almost had a buff brahma egg, 2 black OEGB eggs, and a silver duckwing OEGB egg, but those cages were closed up good, with 1" wire

Oh well!

Thing is, they aren't all that way - just him. His dad died in a mill explosion, and his mother decided to go back to the church (his dad wasn't part of the church, so he hadn't any role model within that framework, I guess - but his brother isn't like that, so I think it's just a power tripping ego thing).

Some people are just "wrong" in the head, I guess.

It is sort of fun to see how red I can make his face when I don't bow my head and back down, though

My Gran would have told him to shut his fat mouth if she knew he acted like that at her funeral reception
lau.gif
- she was NOBODY'S slave - she ran her house (and my grandpa - but he let her

) with an iron hand. I think she was probably grinning right along with me when I burned him like that.

Meri;
Paul states that men are to treat their women like Jesus treated the church, willing to give his life for it. i.e. "He who wishes to be the greatest amoung you should be the servant of all." - Jesus to his disciples (when they were arguing over who would sit at his right and left hand upon the comming of his kingdom).

Perhaps that is why I am still single. I haven't found a woman worthy of me treating that way! Well I have it's just that they have all been married already. Many to Jerks. A lot of good women like Jerks.

I was rearranging things in the coops today and found 8 small bantam sized eggs in a pet carrier where my Delcorns are. Delcorns are my Del roo x Cornish hens meat birds that I decided to keep since they are friendly. This supprised the heck out of me as they are just now 18 weeks old and I wasn't expecting any eggs for about 6 more weeks.

The two Delcorn roos are 7 pounds and 7 pounds, 10 ounces. The hens are much smaller.

One of the Broody chicks died. the one I tried to nurse back to health. I guess something was wrong. I put Broody and her remaining 4 chicks in the bottom Roo pen and blocked off access from the upper roo pen. All my other chicks are doing fine.

Now as far as how I look... I have to tell people all the time that I am a hansome man. Other wise they just might not notice...
And that I will never grow old, and that I will never get sick.
I guess I really don't need to tell people this because they snicker... since it is so obvious.
thumbsup.gif

But occasionally someone tells me something like "Oh well one out of three isn't all that bad. "
th.gif

At first I was hurt but then realized that occasionally I do get sick, and when I look in the mirror I do see my father more and more. so I guess I am still hansome. It's only logical...

I have a good camera but the interface software isn't that easy to use.

Hey, everybody, Hardin, Breckenridge, Grayson are getting hit hard by the storm, and it's heading this way. Be back later if we don't lose power. Batten down the hatches! Their talking twisters, one already touched down in Grayson County somewhere.
