Meet some of my babies.

I just about lost 1 but she pulled through. I have no idea, a cold?? Its been 2 weeks and she is just fine now. The rest have done good.
I ordered some splash and blacks from Cackle. I had a wild hair when I ordered some polish.

I am not sure but I think that is the one that was sick.
And yes they are soo addicting. I plan on building the 3rd coop for black/blue silkies. So I will have a red/partridge, a white, and a black/blue out of my babies I ordered.
Ahh those evil little things are taking over.

I have the opposite situation, the cochins wouldn't sit on their eggs, and the bator was already full of their last batch, so I gave them to one of my mama silkies who was SO excited to get eggs again. I just hope she isn't sitting on duds like the ones in the bator, it'll break her heart.

sigh, everyone has this kind of cochin but me.... seriously, I have to bring Janet inside and make her read all these boards.

She can rarely be bothered to sit on eggs, since she had 2 bad experiences. And she doesn't take foster children either. She knows if they hatched under her, and the rest can go to the orphanage, even if they are her own. Last summer she did get 2 to hatch, 1 more got stomped, so we brought it in and put in the incubator until it could finish hatching a couple of days later. He made it, but when we put him back in her nest she tried to kill him. On the other hand, my silkies don't need golf balls, they can visualize eggs and go broody

So, I went to TSC yesterday to get some chicken wire and other stuff, and heard the peeping, and went to check the bins of chickies.

I have to ask - is it all TSC's or just this one that sticks the meaty babies in with the laying chicks all in one bin?

There was no one (store personel) anywhere near the bins, and these two ladies were looking over the chicks and discussing which ones to buy - and they had no clue the big ones were cornish cross.

Now, if I were new to chickens I'd be mighty ticked if I got a bunch of Cornish Cross chicks thinking I had purchased layers (and for a lot more than the feedstore sells them for). Most of the other chicks in the bin were the same color - looked to be white rocks - and other than size you wouldn't know the difference at that age.

btw - the cornish cross were the same price as the laying chicks, too - usually those are cheaper from the hatchery - so TSC is really cleaning up on other people's ignorance. (ignorance as opposed to stupidity - ignorance is simply not knowing and yet to be informed). I believe the sign said they were 4.50 each (for all chicks, ducks were more than that). I don't know of any hatchery that sells Cornish Cross for more than 2 bucks (and most are way cheaper than that).

I don't think I'll ever be buying chicks from TSC.

I know I am new to chickens but I am very disappointed in TSC. After learning that so many people buy from them only to discover they have the wrong breed and/or sex plus learning that they give them all antibiotics and have no idea what cocci is and the terrible condition of their water (it made me want to clean it out myself) I won't ever tell anyone to buy from them. I am very glad I decided to order my chicks from an online hatchery so I knew what I was getting (well, with the exception on my "packing peanut"). Anyway, I am disgusted by their treatment of both the chicks and their ignorance. Though part of me wanted to buy up a bunch of their chicks just to take good care of them...

I sent you a pm too, just thought I'd post here as well. It kind of looks like he has a 'colored' feather in his tail?? I hadn't noticed this before a few weeks ago, so maybe it's just dirty?
