Kentucky people

Well the drive down to Columbia was fun, but I do have to remember not to point out unique looking farmhouses and animals to Kelly when she is driving, especially on curvey roads!

It was great meeting everybody yesterday and putting faces to the names. We had a great lunch at the Chinese restaurant, good eats and great conversation. Afterwards, Beth, Kelly and I went over to Shelleys to see all her critters and met her dad, and her son Christopher.

He was a little shy at first, but warmed up a bit when I helped him collect some eggs. He is a cutey. For a four year old he is very knowledgeable and serious about taking care of his animals.

We got Beth's and Kelly's gosling and headed back up to Louisville, where I showed off my gang to Beth and Kelly. After they left I went and ran to the feed store to get pigeon feed, chick starter, seed for the house birds, dog food, and some food for me.

Meri and Cindy it was great meeting you two finally, I hope you enjoyed yourselves. I know I did.

Once I get the backyard in shape up here, maybe we can have everybody up for a barbeque or something. For those of you who couldn't make it we had a great time, maybe next time we can plan it so more people can come.

Hey everybody, check out craigslist louisville, the farm and garden section, the materials section and the free section for Wednesday, April 29th. There are lots of ads for silkies, games, and other breeds in the farm and garden section. In the materials section, a man is hand demolishing a house and is offering the cedar siding, and pine boards, etc. for free.

I managed to score another 10 x 6 x 5 dog run off there today. Another run for the chickens!

Hi again!

I still don't have any chickens, but had to share my news.....my husband bought 2 fainting goats for me today!

I am so excited....I have a doe and a buck so we can have goat babies! My wether did not seem to excited with his new company, but I think he'll adjust.

Now, I just need my chicken coop all finished up, a few birds to start with and I'll be satisfied for a while. My husband seems to think I have an addiction to animals....sadly, I'm started to believe it too! I started thinking the other day some guineas would probably eat these ticks that seem to be popping up everywhere...and that I've never seen a newly hatched turkey. See how I end up in trouble??? Hopefully as long as I don't bring home anything too big again I'll be ok ( hubby was NOT happy when I brought home a horse without discussing it with him) Anyway, sorry to ramble on.....just wanted to share my news and my addiction with ya!

Oh my! I have been thinking of getting some fainting goats, I'm sure my son would get a kick out of those! He'd probably end up giving them a heart attack! Congrats on the goats!! (and yes the guineas will take care of the ticks, but with the ticks as bad as they are, you'll need more than a few guineas!

Yeah Guineas are good if you can put up with them. I ended up having 3 males. They wanted to chase my chickens. And they had one section of my shed they wanted to roost in. It used to be where my free range chickens roosted and now it houses my older chicks. I could not keep them out. And they would literally drive you crazy pacing trying to get in.

Never buy keets if you are only getting a few. Guineas do pair up, so adults would need equal male female ratio, or at least more females than males. The only time I would have keets was if I hatched them myself, or if I bought a lot of them.

Anybody got a cure for these wood bees man they are bad this year. And no a match is not an option
