Kentucky people

Anyone around Murray, KY have true Ameraucana? Looking for a roo. I actually live just over the line in TN, but do most of my shopping in Murray.

About 3 a day. I don't have any light on them. They're just hanging out and getting used to our comings and goings. They have taken a liking to timothy pellets though at snack time. That glw hen has given me 1 egg. It's a start!
Tell Jerry the Jeep ended up costing $5400.00 But her new nose job is very nice. Note to self...put a large rock under a tire the next time we have it behind the garage in the driveway...
The kids' could have made a whole zoo out here, the snow won't melt!
Are you on facebook? friend me (Colby Paige Roche) and you can see all the snow at our little cabin from this week. Kevin built me a huge wooden brooder for Christmas. No more lexans for me,

He put a removable partition in the middle so I can expand it. Who knew that man would have a dormant gene for building that was only activated when I (horrors!) bought that $1700 solar gardening shed from Lowe's as my first coop. He's built everything for me since. The man couldn't even put together a prefab bookcase before and now he's an architect...

Colby,

How much snow did you end up with up on your hill? We have several inches right now - waaaaay too much! There are so many drifts that its difficult to tell. My chickens are missing their free range option. Hopefully it will all melt this week. Two of my Silkies (eco-friendly incubators

) are broody now! I did find some Light Sussex eggs to put under one. Hopefully I will have some color project Faverolles eggs to put under the other shortly.

So, do the hens run when they see you with the turkey baster in hand?

I don't think I'm brave enough to try AI!

Its not the hens that are the challenge. My Faverolles hen has so much beard and muff that she never sees me coming! Although by this point, little ZoomZoom, my Mille Fleur d'Uccle cockerel has gotten resigned to the whole thing. I always give him a treat when I am through "violating" him so he doesn't try to hide when he sees me come in the door of the coop anymore.

I candled the 4 Light Sussex eggs under the Silkie broody last night (day 10) and they were all duds. The air cells were all detached and there was no development in anything. I think they had a rough trip through the mail. They came from within KY but ordering eggs during the Christmas shipping season probably wasn't a good idea. Fortunately they were inexpensive. I'll just wait and put some project eggs under her and her also broody sister. Both of them are being very good broody girls. They both have their routine - they get off the nest every morning when I come in to check their food and give them fresh water. They go eat, drink and dump their stinky broody poo, "sing" for a couple of minutes with the other hens who are in the coop next door, and then trundle themselves right back to their nests and don't get off again until the next morning. I think they are both just tickled that they have their own private accomodations now and don't have to share a coop with fifteen babies anymore!

I love Silkies - although I'm still not convinced that they are really chickens . . .
