You are closer to Casey County than I am, LOL it is over on 27. Knolts is on this little road shortly off 27, and Bread of Life is right on 27 towards town. 206 runs right into 27 - shortly after your place - not sure how many miles, but you're halfway there, at least, from Columbia.

There is another feed store right in town, just off the square...can't think of the name right off...have you tried there?

That thing would kill my poor little hens!!...Oh yeah, and it really ticked me off that dad thought it was funny that his stupid roo had already beat up my blue splash dutch roo that I am trying so hard to protect!!! I need to go make sure that mine is on the roost, I worry about my babies...probably broke his little heart!

Cool, hopefully Jon has next friday off, or maybe I can squeak out there between dropping him off and picking him up. I really want to find a home for these roos!!!

LOL yeah, I had a BA roo - Marley, who I had planned to breed with the BA and easter Egger hens - he got too big to do the deed, poor guy. He has a new home, though, I got rid of him the day after I placed the ad on Columbia Magazine. I tried to talk the guy into the other three, but he said no, LOL.

Yeah, the beating thing is why these guys have to go - they steal George's women and try to pick fights with him, he can't even enjoy being out because he is constantly defending himself and his hens.

Poor Nana was frantic this morning because I didn't let her come out to play, since I have to go out of town this morning. I told her this afternoon, I promised - she didn't believe me, I guess, LOL. Poor baby.

Finally got a pic af Bertha, the standard cochin hen of dad's

And this is Charlie, my game roo I got yesterday...He already got his butt kicked by big poppa and the gang bangers, so he is hiding in the building, checkin out the bunnies.

Bertha is a plump little feather ball. You know, I always said I didn't want cochins, they were too foofy. I love cochins!! I never had seen one in person, just pics. I had no idea they were so sweet and cuddly. I can't wait to have some cochin babies.

One problem with me having ducks is I have no pond, so I'd have to have a pool - and I'd be cleaning it often, LOL. We had ducks and geese when I was a kid - and had a little kiddie pool, put a ramp in it so they could get out easier. I want muscovies, if at all possible, and those are harder to find around here, for some reason. I don't like eating duck, but I hear muscovies aren't so greasy as the usual duck, so maybe I'd like those better (for the extras when they hatch- I can't keep em all).

Well, I got my red brooder bulbs, finally. Cost me more at TSC than they cost at Day&Day, but I wanted to have them before it got cold. I bought a couple of spares for if one burns out and I need the heat. I may want another lamp, too, so if one gets wrecked somehow (you never know) I can replace it too.

Dang donkeys got into the lower coop again while I was gone, LOL. Blackjack ate all the chicken feed in George's cell, so I had to refill the feeder. I am thankful he didn't let loose the stream of death, LOL like he does EVERY time he walks into his own barn. That would have really ticked off the chickens when they went into the coop tonight,

(why he can't do that outside, and THEN come in, I have no clue

)

I told hubby he'll have to cut me a chicken door into the bottom of the regular door, so I don't have to have that big door open and inviting Blackjack in. I know it was him - he still had chicken mash on his muzzle when I got home. I wondered what the heck it was, til I saw the coop and the feeder pulled halfway out the door.

I let Nana out when I got home, too, she was very happy to see us.
She followed me around the yard for almost an hour before I had to put her back into the pen, I got other stuff to do, too,

can't babysit a chicken all day (although she would love for me to.)

Well, almost time to do chores, and I'm making steaks on the grill tonight, with baked taters mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I wish it would rain - I got trash to burn and we're under a burn ban. My yard is crunchy

Are you kidding??? That's about all they have at the sale is muscovies!! They are the ones with the red parts around their eyes. I don't want those, they are good flyers, which is good, but they are nasty, and we hade one when I was younger that was mean as a goose!! you will just have to get hubby to have a pond dug...that's what dad did. Course he has a natural spring running there too, so it doesn't go dry at all. Our yard is all brown. I started letting the mamas with babies, and the baby japs and silkies out of their tractors, so they could find some good grass on their own.
Guess what? My araucana mix hatched her chicks today!!! 7 for 7

All dark ones again, wouldn't ya know? I need a different roo, or the gang bangers need to get busy!!
Oh and i had to 'wrangle' all my chicks and mamas back into their pens, they didn't want to go! Well, the baby japs and silkies did, but 2 of the gang bangers went in there terrorizing them, and ran them back out. They got a good swat with the bamboo rod!! We have a spring, a small one, but it is down at the very bottom of the hill - way too far to go and feed every day. I'm fat, old, and I smoke - so screw that idea!!

The jap babies finally came out into the chicken run today for a bit - when I went to turn the coop off, they were all back in the brooder cage, though, ready for bed.

I always take Nana out back where the house shades part of the yard most of the day - it's the only place with green fresh grass. Plus, it's nicer for me to sit in the shade while she scratches and plays

Poor Miss Celie (the Liberated Hen) came around today. She's been living in the woods for a week. She goes back to the coop now and then to lay an egg, but then she runs off again. I put out some water and threw some cracked corn out for her. George and the girls came over, and he tried to dance at her, and she looked like she would rip his head off, LOL.

Miss Celie got chased off, originally, by those extra roos - but she doesn't want anything to do with George, either, because she was the "flavor of the month" for three months straight, and the poor girl hasn't got any feathers at all on her back or the tops of her wings. I had blue-kote on her, but it all wore off, and now I can't catch her.

She seems to be avoiding the racoons, though, so more power to her if she wants to leave men behind for good, LOL. I guess I can understand (George was mounting her at least 8 or 10 times a day )

Well, I got a new toy (bug zapper) so I'm gonna go sit on the porch, LOL I'm a cheap date and easily entertained, I guess. I don't know why I never bought one of these things before this, it is too cool

(although, I have to wonder what sort of sadistic mind came up with the concept

)

If you got young ducks, you could keep them cooped up, and tame them down, for a while. Then you could just show them where the spring is a few times, and they would more than likely go there when you let them out, then come back to the house when they got hungry...I think that would work? Get them when they are young, so you have plenty of time to play with them. Mine used a refrigerator drawer as a bath for at least a month before they were big enough to go to the pond...so they wouldn't need much. You could have hubby make a kinda dog house shelter for them, as long as they have something to keep the wind off them, then they wouldn't mess up your chicken houses!! Just put a guillotine door on it, to lock them in, so nothing can get them. Put some straw down in it, and that would help keep them warm, if you can talk hubby into getting some before winter!! Good luck, and have fun with your zapper!! Too bad the chickies are sleepin already, bet they'd love that!!
