Oh, wait a minute I thought this blog WAS for addicts!

Had to check my Millies since they were the only ones not checked for fertility...Then of course I had to throw in a couple of my BRs eggs, and then a jap, and then DS and I wanted to see if the eggs would hatch from the guy we got the ducks from(they're those Gold sexlinks) so I put them in too although they've been in the fridge for a few days before that and one looks to have a bacteria ring when I candled on Monday. And now I have a bunch of eggs coming from flufnstuff... Cochins and Silkies, and I think something else can't remember right off hand. Go to her webpage and check out her babies, they are beautiful.

LOL Naw, I don't want silkies, just cochins. Bluedog420 already sold those others, so hubby said I could just get an incubator early and If I find eggs I can hatch them myself.

Cindy has some mille fleur's in the bator. But, she doesn't have power to her coop and her hubby would have a hissy if she brooded more of them this year in the basement, LOL so she's sending em over to me to brood.

I got lots of room, and I even have a brooder cage built into the main coop when they get a little bigger. You got to come over here, too, Shelley, to see my coops and my birds in person. Hubby spoils me with the coops

I want to change the sign on the main coop to Mother Clucker's Hatchery

but, I'm not sure if I want that sign to go up on the cupola or just paint a hex sign to put up there, and put the Mother Clucker sign on the door of the coop.

I had a really cool hex sign on my old house, I used to paint them on people's sheds and barns and such. Haven't made one in a long time.

I didn't think I'd like the foofy chickens, either, but I absolutely love those cochins, LOL. I can't wait til spring to have them all running around when it's nicer out. I'm waiting until they start to lay, though, with the ones I have. Just in case I lose them, I'll have replacement eggs, at least.

There's a lot of naughty critters around here.

Not all of them live in the woods, either. The horse and the donkeys got into the coop again today. One of the new ones, Nibbler, looked right at me as I told her NO,

like she was daring me to stop her. She's a sweetie, but you can tell just by that look in her eyes she's gonna be a handful.

We call her Nibbler because if you stand still near her at all, she'll be chewing on some part of your clothing or you

If it's your shirt, she won't let go - ya got to play tug of war with her.

She isn't mean about it though, just naughty like a toddler gets naughty, so it's sort of funny.

I ended up naming her buddy (the two year old) Maggie, so I have yet to name the new mama and baby. They just haven't done anything to merit a name yet - it might take them some time to settle in, though.

Maggie and Nibbler make a good pair, we might train them to pull a wagon. They are matched pretty well in size, too.

LOL Oh, I didn't even think - do you want me to brood the newer eggs too once they hatch? LOL I can, I'll just have to break it gently to hubby, tee hee.

At least I have my own room to put them in. Although, my sewing room is a mess right now, I still haven't put it back together since moving in that freezer. But, I want to make a quilt, soon, so I'll have to get it back in order.

I was thinking of making one of those rag quilts - those are cool looking, and something I can get done fast. I have a crazy quilt I've been wokring on and off (mostly off lately) for a couple of years, LOL not sure I'll ever get it done. It is pretty though, what I have done so far, it has velvets mixed in with the other fabrics. I got all the cloth I need, just haven't set up the sewing machine since I moved, LOL.

I bought Cortni a rag quilt for college...She saw it at an antique mall and wanted it for her bed. I am very impressed with her taste in quilts.

My dad has a horse like that, always wanting to get you. He acts kind of like he wants you to scratch his lip, but I am not going to put my finger in his mouth!! One of dad's pastures surrounds his pond, and me and Cris were fishing shortly after we moved here. I was sitting there, mindin my own business, when all of a sudden, I felt something touch my armpit. Well, of course it was Friday, and his stupid nose...guess he liked my deodorant...You can't hardly pet him though, without him trying to mouth you. I think he just expects you to always have food.
He and my dad's friend's horse destroyed a dog house I had out by the pond. It's there so the ducks food doesn't get wet when it rains. I guess the horses tried to move it, and broke it all to pieces!!

If you really want eggs, like I said in my earlier post, dad has 240 from his chickens, all gathered in the past 7-8 days...they are all standard chickens. Plus he gets a good 25-30 eggs a day, so you wouldn't have to rush. That is if you wanted standards. Would be a good 'practice run' for ya anyway. He only charges $2 a dozen, cause he sells them for eating. Maybe I'll take some to the sale tomorrow?

My banties mostly all have chicks. Only one laying that I know of, and she's an araucana mix. My llittle black dutch doesn't have chicks, but she isn't laying either, unless she is hiding them somewhere I haven't looked yet.

Mother clucker's hatchery is funny...Almost as bad as yelling "c'mere kinky!"

Whenever dad gets his finances straightened up, we need to build coops to. I want to make breeder pens for my silkies and japs, as well as seperate dad's chickens by breed. I also don't like my chickens roosting in an open building, especially in the winter. Need to make some doors for it I guess. It's all closed up pretty well, besides that. There is an old crank out window in the side where the bunnies are, that they can get out of.

I would love to come see your set-up, but I would have to drag dad along. My car is giving me fits lately. Has some kind of electrical short or something that keeps killing the battery.

Ok, well I really need to get my homework done.

The new coops I had built like they are for breeding and brooding. I figured 8x8 would be a good size to put a foursome into, or so. or if I had chicks they'd have lots of room to grow.

I just need to figure out how to open the doors for the chickens, and keep the donkeys out. (hopefully without having to re-build something on it)

Y'all were talking about hawks earlier. Shoot, I know all about them. I have probably lost 6 pigeons to coopers hawks in the past week. At this rate I wont have any left to give away. My buff orp roo is very good at yelling "HAWK" to his girls when something large flies over. (vulture, plain, etc) And when he does the game hen hits the nearset bush which has trained my younger pullets quite well.


P.S. If anyone is interested I have about 12-20 pigeons for free (you can resell them if you want lol). They are very nice birds. I am a serious pigeon guy these arent culls. Some from top show breeders and some flown daily(Old dutch capuchines, color rollers and thief pouters) . I need to cut back since my wife and I soon will be on the way to Ethiopia to get our little girl!!!
