Don't have any from him, unless Cindy got some, and I think we'd know it by now.

I had someone sell me some with snotty noses (I found out after a couple of days at my house) earlier this summer, but he lives near me. I got all of that taken care of - wasn't anything too serious, thankfully.

It seems like a LOT of people (from all over) are posting about getting birds that are sick lately - makes me wonder what is going around. Also makes me want to never bring another strange bird into my flock. I finally have some good chickens, I want to keep them. (although I have a few that still have to go, for the most part, I'm happy with the my layers).

I have an incubator, now, though, so I can hatch my own eggs out - less chance of disease. I don't think (don't know, but don't think) there are very many diseases that pass through the eggs.

On another note, - I have two appenzeller spitzhaubens (not true to type, but funny and pretty) roosters for sale - to anyone that wants one. I'll get some good pics of them tomrorow.

I have three - two were supposed to be pullets

I'm keeping one and gonna get a couple of pullets next spring for him.

I need to write up a list of the birds I have for sale or trade....

If anyone has a spitz pullet they want to trade for a roo - let me know

. These roos (actually cockerels) just started crowing, aren't a year old yet - they were born this last spring.

Gonna be busy tonight - I have to get Jon from work, then I have to take Roger to Glasgow (at 9:30 at night!!) to get his wife's car - she broke her wrist at work.

Hope the deer stay out of my way.

I hope my week gets better soon!

Meri

Aw Meri, too bad you don't have a fish tank!! Cris 'fed' his goldfish this morning, trying to help, and I guess he overfed them. We got back from Russell Springs and one of them was dead

Now he only has one, and Glasgow is the closest place to get them, other than Somerset! Oh well!

Hey Meri, I forgot to tell you!! Do you ever check out the 'chicken and other recipes' forum? There is a thread on there that has recipes for laundry soap, fabric softener, and all sorts of cleaner type things!! That would be another way to save some $$. Wouldn't have to spend $10 a month for laundry soap!! There was one person that said the powder soap recipe averages out to about 1&1/4 cents per load!!

The Avian Leukosis is transmitted through eggs! I'm glad you all don't have any birds from him. I think most people on here live in the western half of the state anyway, but I thought I'd post it just to be safe. I can't wait until I have farmland to keep roosters on, then I'll hatch my own too. Right now I'm just going to give my flock to someone else (who also has infected birds from the same guy) and order chicks from Ideal to start a clean flock. I'm terrified to get birds from any farm now.

Yeah, I have some of those recipes - but you cannot find a bar of that soap you use in it anywhere in this town.

Maybe in Campbellesville, or Russell Springs - haven't tried there.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Yeah maybe Campbellsville would have it. If not they said you could order it online, though I don't know how much more the shipping would be.

Make sure you sanitize your coop and run.

Wouldn't want anything leftover affecting your new birds.

Meri

I've been thinking about the best way to sanitize everything. Aside from bleach, I'm not sure what else to do. The birds free range around my yard and the Avian Leukosis is carried in feces and survives freezing I think. And the run is full of sand..I can't really move the coop to somewhere else. Someone told me bleach is inactivated in soil so it won't clean the run. I'm thinking of trying Oxine but I can't really afford to spend the $$$ on it right now, unless it's somewhere local so I can save on shipping...

Well, if there are girls keep one for me...I'll be over that way in a week or two if that isn't too long to hold them.

Will they be old enough to put in the coop by that time? I have the wooden doghouse I just recently bought for a coop, just have to make a door for it. It is insulated, but I have no electric that far out to run heat to the coops.

Nope I've never bought from anyone named David in Berea...Only Bluedog420 and he has some nice healthy birds. And all of them have ended up really sweet birds...Except the mean ole guinea that we spoiled rotten, kids are still determined he is tameable...He REALLY needs a girlfriend to keep him occupied so he'll forget about running the chickens off from the treats. Can't wait til Spring, Bluedog420 will have a girly for him.

The little blue splash baby is about 6-8 weeks old (not exactly sure), and the others are about 3 or 4 weeks? I think! Let me check photobucket and see when I uploaded the pics, if I can, so I can figure out how old they are!!

Ok, I lied!!

The blue splash chick is about 4 weeks old now, and the others are about a week younger, if that. So they would probably need a light for a bit longer. Plus they have been in the box with brand new babies for a while, so they aren't getting acclimated much at all.
