I may be willing to take a couple of RIR hens, just so I can get to breeding with this guy - he'd have to wait til spring, otherwise, when the chicks are big enough - I want some babies, at least, I can hatch the eggs I get for now, then see if I can find some rocks, later.

How much does he want for them? (if ya know, or ask when he gets back inside)

I can pick them up when I come over this next week - now I just have to find a place to put the bachelors so I can steal their pen for the meaties.

I know he said before that he wanted $10 each for them, and he would be willing to part with up to 10 of the reds. There are the ones in the pen that are laying already, then there are the younger ones that are running around the yard that aren't laying yet, but should be soon.
I forgot to ask him about the whites when he came in, and now he's sleeping

but I will try to remember later!

I was cruising eBay looking for some old little people toys for Cris for Christmas. I have struck a gold mine!! I can't believe people still have those! And dad said he would loan me the money to get whatever when he gets his check until my money gets here!!

Cool, I'll take two RIR hens - ones already laying would be cool.

If the rir mix chick I have is any indication, they grow fast and are pretty mixed with whitish roos -- I need to get some updated pics - that rir chick is the biggest one of the bunch, and already has half her feathers - and she's only a week old.

I'll come on over Monday if that's still cool with you. That way I can get the tank set up today and get another heat lamp monday for it while I'm in town.

Have him grab me a couple of nice (big) ones

I'll bring a cage.

Meri,

I saw a couple of adds on Craigslist where someone was selling young hogs and I think a couple of calves as well. Also look on Kijiji Louisville, they have a livestock section.

Glad to hear that you and Cindy are recooperating from the dog attacks on your flocks. I saw an ad, I think on Craigslist also for an 18 month old male Great Pyrenes Guard dog. They no longer have animals and want to find him a home on a farm where he can be useful.

I am getting 8 Mille Fluer D'Uccle eggs and a doxen or so assorted Silkie eggs this week to incubate. Flowerpot is going to help me with this project.

Please pardon the state of the brooder cage - I just changed the pad yesterday evening, and it is mostly food they've thrown all over

.

Ok, hard to see her (I hope it's a her) she kept hiding in the back, but here is a pic of her back - on the far right of the cage...

More pics... The lightest colored chick (farthest left, who is NOT camera shy

) is the first chick hatched - I think it may be a roo, just because of it's attitude

Also, you can see how well the feet are feathering out on the cochin babies.

Heya -

I've been checking Craigslist, but no feeder pigs in the size (or price) I am hoping for. Saw some registered tams down in Nashville TN, but they wanted 60 bucks each for 3 week olds!! ouch.

The calves I am looking for are weanlings, too - saw some bottle babies (not fooling with those) and some big ones (finishers) but none the age I want (weanlings).

The calves I can probably get local - I have a couple of neighbors who have some good looking calves. The pigs may be harder to find - a couple weeks ago I saw some over in Liberty that were the right age and price, but since the pig pen is only "almost" finished, I couldn't really get them.

The pigs I am not so worried about, even if I don't get those until spring - since they grow out faster than the cows will anyway.

Thanks for looking, though

ETA - good luck on the egg hatching - it is addicting

It may not be a mix. You would have to wait till it gets older to know more, but they all get those feathers like that as babies. If it has a straight comb and is red I would guess it were pure. There is a possibility.

Hey all...Everyone is settled in now...I put them in a cage and all 3 are getting along just fine after a short I'm the boss meeting with the two boys, the red Cochin won I think, splat keeps his distance from it. Layne named the Spitzhauben Splat because it looks like someone threw him against the wall and the colors went SPLAT!

ETA: Awww...thats Bess and Raouls baby, and I think she has Bess's attitude too by the way it sounds.

Splat and Hoss got along great, so maybe he just had to figure out that the red was another Hoss

Speckles is getting along great with Rudy and the girls. I finally got the free rangers in for the night - after I chased the stoopid guineas out of the coop again.

Cindy, Monday I'm gonna get two RIR hens for Speckles, can't wait to see how that goes over

If ya want some funky babies I'll give ya some hatching eggs from them, once they start to get it together. I wonder if the babies will be sex links of some flavor, hhmmm.... that would be convenient.

Hey Shelley, how about I give Cris a spitzhauben for Christmas

He likes the funky chickens, tee hee.

The little guy NEEEEEDS a spitzhauben.
