Kentucky people

There have been a few people on here that say they have broody button quail, so you may get lucky and they will use the nest boxes. Usually from what I've heard, they just drop them wherever! But we will be here for sure tomorrow, so anytime is ok.
Oh and I got lucky that the rain had stopped right after I went out to feed, then started back up when I came back in! Poor chickens are back in the barn acting like they are freezing to death!! Except the silkies, those silly things love the rain! They go pile up under Princess's porch when they get chilly long enough to warm up, then they go back out scrounging for food. I starve them to death don't you know...

How did those flock blocks work out? Did they like them?

Well, I'll offer them one anyway, it'll be a place to hide if nothing else, and will pretty up the tank (gonna paint it).

As for the flock blocks - well, mixed reviews on the chicken front

The bantam cochins haven't any idea what it is. The spitzs and layers have given it a try - but it hasn't been a huge success, but it isn't full winter yet, so I figure thye may catch onto the joys of flock blocks soon enough.

Speckles, however, likes to use it as a posing platform.....

Isn't he HUGE???

eta - the top of the nesting box is about 2 foot or so off the ground....
edited again - no it has to be more than that, actually, this end comes about to my mid thigh - well, right above the knee, anyway.

We have a roo that looks similar to that one, but he has a lot more barring in his body. But he is not a dom or a rock, he might be mixed, but idk. I'm sure he is huge! Especially since you're used to bantams!! That makes the standards look even bigger!

Yeah, even George and the layers aren't this big.

Marley (the BA roo) was close to this, but not as solid - he was more fluffy than Specks is.

either way, it's the biggest dang chicken I've ever owned

ETA Speckles is a Delaware - probably hatchery quality, but nice

There were some at that sale in Liberty we went to that were supposed to be Delawares, but they didn't have the barring in their feathers that I noticed. But then again, I didn't really check them out that good! I don't like standard birds that much, but bantams are not a very good choice if you are wanting to sell them, nobody wants the little ones!

One reason I got the little ones is because a lady in Glasgow told me that everyone wants the little ones

I guess I'll just stick to what I want, and if other folks want that too, then fine, I can sell or trade them some hatching eggs or such.

Did you catch the thread about Ideal going to be selling Columbian Rocks as Delawares next spring? Not the same bird at all.

They said they were going to do that? That's crazy!! Delaware's are supposed to be a rare breed, but they don't sell them for any different price that I know of. That's just silly. And if they are supposed to have barred feathers then they don't look like columbians that I have seen! Oh well, I won't be buying from hatcheries anyway, except for maybe the partridges that I want to get. I think CUDA on here has some eggs in the spring, but I'm not sure I want to ship those eggs all the way from MI.

Yeah, the more I've been reading, the more I want some good quality Delware hens to throw into the breeding mix.

Wonder where I can get some good ones (not necesarily hatchery).

Oh, btw - I read a thread on here this morning that has me amazed. I am no longer wondering why this country is in the state it is - sheesh. In the spirit of the moderators not banning me, I won't speak of it further, but wow - some people are simply too ignorant to be allowed breed/vote/wander loose amongst society.

Got it.

Sounds to me like someone just wants to cause trouble! Who cares if the neighbor doesn't want a fence? Some people are just plain silly! I would like to know how they got the lot 'inside' that person's land in the first place? Evidently they sold them some land, they should have fenced it off to begin with. Crazy people.
