Merry Christmas to everyone!!

Well, I had a bitter sweet morning. Cris absolutely had a ball opening presents, but what 4 year old doesn't?

Then came the bad news

I went to turn my duck eggs around 11 (since I was so caught up in the gifts and cooking). Sometime during the night the stupid thermostat went out on the bator that my duck eggs is in. It was down to 82 degrees when I noticed it. So I'm not going to hold my breath on those. What really sucks about it (besides all the money I may have lost on these eggs) is that this bator is not even mine. It's the one I borrowed off a friend. Plus it is practically brand new! I can't believe it. I hope they didn't all die, but they were already on days 8-10, so we'll see.

Bummers Shelley, sorry to hear that.

Well it looks like my eggs aren't going to hatch either, this is Day 22 and nothing is happening.

I remember when the boys were young, they would drag us out of bed before the sun came up for Christmas - this morning, I had to drag them out of bed about 11:00 to get them to open presents - lazy boys!! they stayed up all night playing xbox, I think.

It is GORGEOUS out there, though. I've been out petting donkeys and talking to chickens. Left the front door open for awhile to get some of the heat out (from the oven) - plus a good airing out didn't harm anything, either

I hate being cooped up inside when it's icky out, I love to have the doors open and the fresh air coming inside.

They were cool to the touch, so I'm thinking it was at that temp since I cooled them last night. That's about the temp it drops to when I cool.

I took the eggs out and put them in another bator, and cranked the messed up one all the way. It got up to 105 before I noticed it, so I was thinking maybe it got bumped? Nope, I turned the temp down just a bit, and the next time I checked it was at 75. So looks like I get to buy another bator for my friend, or at least a new thermostat for this one.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Sorry about the bator Shelley. The coolness shouldn't hurt them as much as the over heating.. Good luck.

Hang in there a nother day or two FrChuckW. I've been supprised before.

I hope you're right. That is the general consensus from what I've heard, but my luck they'll all die! It's not so much the money loss (which is bad enough) but these were going to be in my breeders this fall (I hope), and now I may get to start all over...

So how was your Christmas? Did santa bring you lots of presents?

My husband just told me to buy myself 15 Delaware pullets next spring and keep them all

Woohoo!!!! I have "permission" to buy chickies!!!!

I was gonna buy them anyway and just not keep all of them, sell part to pay for the ones I keep. He said to keep them all

Since I am selling so many eggs, and if I buy Dels I will have purebred Dels to hatch out and sell chicks, too.

I am a happy camper today

Does anyone ever go to Cookeville for the exotic sales?? Someone told me once they have some kind of weekly swops?? I wanna go.
I hope everyone is well. I am working today, so I will be on and off. It is sort of funny that when I am off I dont get to get online.

It is better, but still hurts, thanks for asking

At least it is mostly the wrist, now, and not the whole hand (usually). If I use it too much or twist it it hurts pretty badly - I have no idea what happened to the stoopid thing. I must just be getting old
