but Jose' has been feeling neglected lately, so he helped me grill hamburgers tonight - they got a little overdone, I blamed Jose'. But it was all good, a little swiss cheese melted on top helped them go down good anyway.

eta - Jose' has gotten me into BIG trouble before, but I love him anyway.

Where are you located Andora? You probably said before but I forget and am too lazy to go back and find it.

lexington, I think was on the other post andora made - not too bad to drive.

The main reason I don't want to order from Ideal is that they have informed everyone that they are planning to sell Columbian Rocks as Delawares. Now, Columbian Rocks are pretty, but they are simply NOT Delawares. Look similar, but not quite the same bird.

I'm glad they said they were planning this, instead of just switching and not saying anything, but still....

That's strange. Why would they do that?? I wouldn't mind ordering from somewhere else as long as they have Houdans. My toddler's beloved pet Houdan died last fall and I want to surprise her with Houdan chicks around Easter. I might get a few other breeds too, just because I'm a sad chicken collector like that. Hah.

Well in these last two purchased batches I have no pipping or hatches on them...Giving up on trying to incubate shipped eggs, gonna wait for a broody next time I buy eggs...But all 3 of my own are wanting to hatch and one is pipped. I think two of these three are Cochin bantams from the eggs my new hen laid when I first got her...No telling what color they'll be but I think one of the males in that pen she was out of was black and I think there was another color male just don't remember what color. As for the ones from tazcat and Ms. Lewis Rich, over half are bebopping around in the eggs.

I'm not sure what their reasoning is behind the change. Maybe it is because the Col. Rocks have more color to them (more black at the neck) and they figure people want the Color to be nice, and not want a REAL Delaware

I want the Dels for a dual purpose/meaty project, and to sell extras (pure Dels) so I don't want a Columbian Rock, pretty as they are.
If I had no other choice, I would take the Col. Rock as my second choice, but I can get Dels at Cackle for a good price. (I already have some white rocks in the project).

as for ordering more than ya plan

, my order has already changed a couple of times, and I haven't even called them yet.

Cackle also has some Delaware crossed with NH Red - which aren't bad looking birds, they are a sex link. The hens are red with the Del pattern, and the roos look like a Del. Interesting, but still not what I wanted either. But, it is nice to know what the Del roo on the RIR hen might turn out like (NH red and RIR might be similar in sex link).
