I am going to need to seperate my mama silkie and her nest so she can hatch her babies and be safe and secure. That is like the perfect thing! It looks inexpenisve too since we alread have enough tin to make it. Thanks for putting up the pics!

Ps. What was it originally used for? Rabbits?

Yes, it was originally used for Rabbits, at least that's what she advertised it as. But I figure I can scrub it out and sterilize it and it will be okay for the chickens or whatever I put in there. When I get the other one on Tuesday I'll try to take pictures of it and the new run set up I am working on.

Its amazing how your brain works once you get chickens. Suddenly you are on the look out for anything you can use, weather it be online, in a store, or in a pile of garbage. I think more people should get chickens. It seems to make you into a great recycler!

One of my neighbors has a beagle pen (the raised kind) which he is not using, has hay stored in it - every time I pass it I think - that would make a great banty breeding pen.

Hubby said he'd make me one of those like Fr. Chuck has up there (or two) for broody hens or brooding babies in or whatnot.

It really is a nice simple design, could whip one up in an afternoon, easily. Of course, hubby is already modifying it in his head - he's talking about how he could make the bottom slide out for easier cleaning, etc...

Seems to me easiest cleaning would be to have the entire front on hinges, so if it's empty (no birds) you could open it all up and just hose it out (since it is all metal, anyway). But, I know he'll make it slide out,

it makes him happy to play with stuff like that, and I get cool coops, so I'm not complaining.

Well I cant believe that I dont have about 4 pages to catch up on like usual. I dont guess the girls got back from their chicken run. I have pictures to upload of the babies but I better get some work done first.

OK here they are.
The triplets out of a black doe. All girls.

Here is a little girl. The one in the pink jacket is mine.

These are the ones that started it all. I think I already put this picture on but look again. Both bucks.

Wow, do you mean that Cindy, Shelley and I post more than anyone else on here combined?
lau.gif
What would you guys do without us?
wink.png

Well, I got home last, Cindy has been home, but is probably catching up with her family, and Shelley is probably ... well, I don't know what Shelley is doing

I just got done with dinner, so I'm free for a few.

From Bluedog today I got.....

The white pullet (cochin) the Black pullet (cochin) and the one that he thought was a partridge cochin turned out to be a gold laced (woohoo!!) Plus I got the Del roo, who is a handsome fella.

We had fun. Much better road trip than going to a Mall or some such - ya can't get chickens at a Mall
wink.png

So, I put everyone into the baby cell, (hopefully they'll all get along for the night, and I'll straighten out living acommodations tomorrow).

well, everyone except Dumpling
big_smile.png

Dumpling is the little black cochin pullet, who rode most of the way home in my lap. She is gonna stay inside tonight, cause we put her in the cell, and she ran and climbed on top of hubby's feet and cried to him.
gig.gif
she knows who to butter up when she wants something.

I said "well, maybe she should sleep inside tonight" and he didn't even bat an eye, he just bent down and scooped her up and handed her to me.

So, I'm gonna go and sit down for a bit an relax with the hubby.

peace -
meri

I'll turn him into a chicken lover yet.

My turn
From FLOWERPOT i got
quad White Cochins
1 Mottled Frizzle Cochin hen
4 golden pheonix hens
self blue dutch rooster and oe hens
trio sultans
trio Qauil danvers
and pair of gineas
2 silkie hens
all for 2 laying buff orps.
yay!
Ill post pics tomarrow!

I got home and my dad hadn't locked anybody up!!
barnie.gif
I had silkies in the baby pen, babies in the silkie pen, Of course the silkies heard my voice and came running looking for me, got scared cause it was dark, and went running all over the yard trying to figure out where 'home' was
roll.png
So after I got everyone straightened out where they belonged, I did a head count. Normally I have to 'put' the babies to bed, they like to hang out till they can't see. I am missing two, so I hope they are just holed up somewhere and will come out in the morning.
sad.png

I got a trio of mottled cochins, and a pair of millies.

I wish I would have known FLOWERPOT had a mottled frizzle!! I would have taken that one!
hmm.png

Oh, I also had to open and set up my new hovabator, so I can put my million dollar silkie eggs in there! Well, maybe not a million dollars, but I paid about the same for 5 birds as I did for 20 eggs!
th.gif
I hope I get a good hatch from them!

Hey Meri, once our mottleds start laying, we should swap eggs so we can get different bloodlines
wink.png

I still didn't get my button quail cage!!
barnie.gif
I have everything to go in it, just nothing to put everything in!!
rant.gif
I hope it gets here tomorrow, those poor buttons need their cage cleaned out!

Oh, and I didn't have an email saying I was outbid on those lakenvelder eggs, so looks like I'll be getting those too.
