Hey. I know the feeling. My daughter has an IEP in place, she had it at the school we were in last year, we moved and while the school system here has its better than old things going on, they are not doing her right by her IEP . She is supposed to be able to orally do her spelling test , she is to have a scribe, myself at home included , or she can do things on the computer and print it out , and I am fair about it , I will not spell the words right if she does it wrong , I write what she tells me to and everything. We finally had an ARC meeting and NOW they want me to go get her glasses which are less than a year old , before they test her again. She is also supposed to have 90 min of special ed a day ,BUT gets 30. I am so mad at them but there is no other school here in my small town. Since you have practice with this , what can I do.. ??? email is [email protected]

PS , I think you bought some chickens from us a while back , so you know which school I am talking about. Got a new pc and forgot my password to the other name..

Well, all states are supposed to incorporate the "no child left behind act" in their school systems. And have to provide services as per the individuals with disabilities act. If they don't have the service to provide they are supposed to get it, even if it is for only one child in the school. The school board is supposed to have funds set aside for just this thing. Unfortunately, a lot of them don't have enough and the individual schools have to rely on the grant they get each year from the free lunch program and other fund raisers. They get so much for each free lunch app. filled out regardless of whether or not the kid qualifies, so it is important for everyone to fill it out but most don't because they know they don't qualify...Lost money for the schools because these folks won't fill it out. I always fill it out completely then write don't qualify across the front. The principal at my sons school told me they don't get as much grant money as compared to one of the small country schools in our system does because the lower income and smaller schools supposedly need more assistance. She had to turn away an IEP child in a wheelchair this year that lives in her zone because the school didn't have the resources to support that childs education. We don't even have a SPED class at that school...No tier program or anything.
Where we used to live in TN they took the Act very seriously and even had a class for the ADHD or Section 504 kids to go to after they collect their assignments for the day. They get their work done they go back to class. I was a SPED assistant in the moderate to severe IEP children. It was so rewarding.

No, you can have up to 5 females with one male, but it is hard to tell when they are little. It can be done, but if you don't know what you're doing, you can hurt them. I don't know what I'm doing, or I would not have gotten 4 boys last summer out of 4 ducklings!

But yeah, I'll definitely swap the wild button for one of the splashes. I found out they are cinnamon-blue-faced-splash...boy that's a mouthful! But they sure are pretty! I have 2 males and 2 females in that color, I'm almost positive.

I'm not sure what to do about the japs. I don't have any cages available, and I don't want them to free range. I'm sure my red pyle boys will whoop the roo. Are they as big as Cindy's girl? Oh, that's right! I do have an empty cage! Brutus is living with dad's chicks now, and the millies are in his old cage. All I need to do is fix the hole in the front of the rabbit cage, and I can put the japs in Brutus' old cage!! Then the millies feet won't get all nasty from the mud

Well, I'd be happy with a trio of ducks, then, I don't need four. But if ya only got a pair, I'll take a pair, if you have enough to sell me a pair. Hopefully you'll have that many for me. I'm gonna check Sano friday, too, and see if I can't maybe find someone with those Anconas again. Those were so nice - I'm bummed that I didn't buy them back then.

I need to read up on duck brooding, I guess

Great job on the hatch! Aren't chicks great!!!

I was reading about the difficulty you guys are having with the schools. I work with physically and mentally handicapped adults. Some of the parents weren't happy with funding issues, and other things. They got together, formed a concerned families coalition, go to Frankfort, Washington DC, and needless to say, have quite a say in what goes on. Perhaps you should bypass the local school board and contact the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and State Department of Education. At least they will know you are serious. They say the squeeky wheel gets the oil.

And thanks everyone for the feedback on my BYC page. Now I need a logo for business cards and stuff.

~They are easier than chicks, but they are a lot more messy!

~Take a gallon jug (milk, water etc.) and cut a hole in the side. This will be used for water. They don't seem to make as big a mess with it.

~They eat a LOT!! They need a high protein food, but they CAN NOT HAVE MEDICATED FEED!! It will kill them.

~They also can not be on shavings. They will eat those, and THAT will kill them!

~You need to get some BREWER'S YEAST in the vitamin section at walmart or whatever. Walmart doesn't have flakes, so I got the pills and a pill crusher. Give them about 2-3 pills a day, sprinkled on their feed.

~They shouldn't be allowed to swim much when they are little. Their oil glands are not developed as well as when they are with mama (they use hers) or when they are bigger. If you do let them swim, they need to be in water that they can stand up in.

~They do not need as much heat as chicks do. Mine are 2 weeks, and stay away from their light all the time. They could probably do without it completely since they are inside. The first week they need about 85*, then decrease it 5* weekly after that. But just watch them and see how they act with it.
I don't know what else, if I think of anything I'll let you know. Did I mention they are messy??

I've heard they are messy. I'll probably run up to Campbellesville to get some duck starter. I don't think Day & Day has it. I'll grab the brewers yeast too - I used to buy it at a health food store, I wonder if one of the pharmacies would have it. Or maybe if it is in flake form it is in the food aisles? If I can't get the duck starter, will the higher protein gamebird starter be ok if it isn't medicated?

I've given up on pine shavings as brooder bedding - it stinks so much faster than the hay does, and gets thrown into water dishes faster, too. I like the pine out in the coops, but not inside the house.

I won't be letting them swim at least until they are a little bigger. I was thinking for outside - when I put them outdoors to live, until I get my pond dug, they'll need a swimmin' hole - although, I got plenty of swimmin' holes all over the yard right now - dang rain!! I'll probably keep them in with the chickens until they are big enough (and it is warm enough ) to be out totally, then I'll get them a dog house (or have hubby build me a duck house.) Jose' and the chicks should be fine with some ducklings - Jose' seems very easy going

those two cochin girls make him do whatever they want him to do.

Once I have the pond, I told him he has to build me a duck house on the pond - so it can float out a little, with a dock type of set-up. I can anchor it to the land, so I can pull it in to hose it off periodically. I was thinking a little ramp that goes down into the water a little bit would be something they could get onto to walk up to the platform.

I have to agree with Yolonda on that. Contact the State Board of Education and the Cabinet for Family and Health Services. I was a Special Needs Assistant for the JCPS school system and there are Federal Laws in place that make it Mandatory for school districts to provide the education for SNCs. Faliure to do so can cause them to lose their accredidation and possible have the state step in to take over the school district.
