Well I got my babies some mealworms today at Feeder's Supply. Supposedly there were 100 of the little buggers in there. SO I went to sprinkle some in their brooder. OMG! Stampede! And they knocked the cup out of my hand and dumped the whole container in there. What a bunch of little piggies and they are only 4 weeks old!

Well my internet is down at home again. I have had Windstream for little over a year and this is the 2 time in the last month. Everytime I call I have to go through all this trouble shooting before they will send someone out. I am about ready to tell them to take it and shove it.
So tonight I am working and will have to get caught up. I did acquire a new addition. I had bid on him at the local mini horse sale and got outbid. But the guy passed away and a friend bought him back. Then he ask me if I wanted to buy. OF COURSE. He is so sweet.

I have some teen chicks that haven't been outside long. I have to run a few in their tractor every day. One thing I've found is if you feed them when it is bed time, they will go in much easier

I think it has to do with teenage rebellion, but that's just me

I've been wanting a little spotted jack (they are so expensive, usually for the spotted). Is he intact??? I have the cutest girly we could breed him to - she is a strawberry color - not an official color designation, btu she is like a light butterscotch with strawberry highlights (she is gorgeous!!). Her mama is a dun, but her daddy was a spotted, and her two aunts (mama's full sisters) are both spotted. Butters has a few white spots, but not enough (for me) to call her spotted, even though technically she could be called such.

She's small, too, smaller than Mama is - mama is a larger mini - she's probably 36 inches, Butters is probably closer to 32. She's not quite a year old yet, though, so it's early still to breed her, but I was planning to breed her with Blackjack, who is a lovely black with very few white points.

depends on how nice it is outside at the time. I taught them from the start (with a gentle nudge from a long thin stick - a herding type stick - I never poked, and don't even have to touch them now, just hold it out like a long arm) that "Shoo Chick" means to go to bed. They recognize the stick, too, so they know if I have that in my hand, that I won't let up on them til they go.

However, they will learn to go in on their own, also. At the very least when they start to lay, and learn that the coop is the safest place to be - they'll go in at dark (usually). However, I've been happier being able to herd them in when I have to - in case a huge storm is coming, or I need to go away for an extended period and won't be back til far after dark. I've had to put them in the coop earlier than they want to go a few times.

Cindy, the bator they'll be going in has 12 golden lakenvelders and 6 khaki ducks in it already, so it is good and warm!!

I got done feeding this morning (which took 4-EVER!!) and went to come inside. I had to shoo my babies out of the way so I could open the door! Dad's bantam roos had figured out it was nice and warm on the porch in the sun, and had scared all my babies up by the door! Silly kids!!!

btw - new report on Columbia Magazine about the first confirmed Flu case in Adair county - urging everyone to run out and get their flu shots right away.


altogether now.... throw your hands in the air, run around in circles and scream "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!"

I just love how they try to scare us into overmedicating ourselves and our kids.
