OMG Cindy!!! How awful!! And the hawk was just sitting there eating the duck? That is just crazy! I think I'll get Layne a slingshot for his birthday (you'll have to tell me when it is!) since you can't shoot the stupid hawks! You can slingshot them all you want though, and enough would probably keep them away!! I hope you can find another drake, and your other one gets better.

I am so TIRED!!!!!

omg!!! I started at about 1:00 cleaning that top coop - and I finished right about 5:00 - I took a few breaks, but still, wow!!

I cleaned the thing from top to bottom, I put the chickens out in the run, and just scraped down every surface, perches, nest boxes, hauled I don't know how many loads of bedding out, then Oxined the entire thing and threw in some fresh hay (didn't have pine shavings today).

Then the fun part began.....

I went down to catch Mr. Speckles and his girls, and put them inside the top coop, then caught the chickens I had in the run, and put them in Mr. Speckles' coop. I was gonna swap Jose' and his girls, too, but that'll have to wait til tomorrow (or after it warms up, they are fine where they are for now.)

so I am halfway to having them all where they need to be

I wanted to get the coop done before it got super cold, so I could be swapping chickens and have them be settled and comfy in the nasty weather.

Mr. Speckles LOVES the chicken run - poor guy and his girls have been cooped up since I got them here, and he immediately went out and called the girls to come on out, too.

Then I got to come inside and make dinner

and a Margarita, too - I earned that margarita today.

Now I just need a long hot shower and my lovely pillow.

I did a major cleaning today as well. Mine was the 'chicken house', as dad calls it. I keep telling him there are NO chickens in that room, but still he keeps calling it that! I cleaned itty bitty ducks' box, not-so-itty-bitty ducks box (they loved that, they got to stay in the tub for about 45 minutes!), baby quails' box, and button quails' cage. I still need to tackle the fish tank, but I'm spent, I think they'll have to wait till tomorrew!

So I see how it is, I get here, and everyone else leaves?

Some bad news today. One of my brand new baby ducks died.

I went to get Cris off the bus and when I came back, I found it with its head in the waterer.

Cool Shelley...His b-day is 4-22. My luck he'd end up a sharp shooter with it and we'd be in trouble. Well there is a sanctuary for wounded birds of prey at the highschool here... lol

I was wondering what type of waterer a baby duck would use - seems the chick waterers would be hard for them to drink out of, maybe not, though.

Night Cindy!!

I used the base only of a chick waterer on the pekins, and had no trouble. But this baby was the last to hatch (so far), and it had everything working against it. I still have the chick waterer base in there, but now I don't know what to do. I just never thought a duck would drown!!
