My temps was completely by accident

I just figured out a few days ago that the thermo I had in there was about the same height as the eggs, so when I was trying to keep it around 100-101 at the top of the eggs, it was pretty much dead center. Good thing for the seramas, bad for the cochins!! I would think if you were to do them with a different breed of chickens, you could always tear an egg carton apart and set the egg cups in the turner cups, that way the seramas eggs will be higher. I have been keeping my humidity as close to 50% as I can get it this winter. I've tried dry, and it doesn't seem to work.

I got a call from the P.O. so looks like my milllie eggs are here!!

And I finally got a silkie egg!!

Too bad it was frozen

It was soooo tiny!!

And that @#*! cochin roo keeps trying to peck me. Doesn't he know he's not supposed to bite the hand that feeds him?

Your son will love parlour rollers. They cant fly. They can hardly jump lol. well when they are young they might be able to get up to a perch. If you give them a light toss or clap your hands they will roll away like a bowling ball! The best ones have rolled for like 200 plus feet without stopping. I had one the would roll a few feet somethimes its just a flip. They do best in a rabbit hutch by them selves since they cant fly.

Just want to say

to all you Kentucky people... I posted a couple of times last year, trying to learn all I can about chickens before I get them. Going to be getting some in the next couple of months

I'm so excited!

Got my millie eggs today!! Absolutely LOVE the packing job they did!! They used egg cartons as the shock absorbers...who would have thought? I'm sure they work pretty well. since they are styrofoam. I ordered 12 and got 15, all of them in one piece from OK, so they must have worked!! Even the outside of the box was smooshed a bit, but all the eggs are fine. I'll have to candle later to check for cracks and stuff, but so far so good! I'll have my flock established before you know it!! I still need some more BTB and BTW japs though.

Well, I'm home, and COLD and a happy camper.

I got ducks

I ran over to Cindy's and got those two call ducks from her today. Was too cold to do anything else around here.

Cindy, I didn't realize til I got that "duck" house home and put together how HUGE it is

I can fit a lot of ducks in that thing. (heck, in a pinch, I could cram Sammy in there, if he gets out of line

) That was a great deal on it, though, so how could I pass it up?

Hubby made faces at me a little, but by the time I got done unloading and feeding and watering the ducks, he was inside and warm and in a little better mood. I just told him I "needed" the stuff, so I bought it.
I used my "end of story" tone of voice, and he said "well, ok, but ya really gotta cut back on spending"

I hear this at least twice a day. So I smiled and nodded and kissed his head and said "ok".

I'll get pics tomorrow or the next day of the ducks here - it is too dang cold to go out again, except to do chores later.

eta - now I just need more ducks

Was more of a shiver chat shiver chat run to the feedstore shiver some more grab ducks go home. We did eat lunch at the Chinese place, though.

I got the silver calls that Briarpatch was gonna get, but Briar turned out couldn't pick them up, so I ran over and grabbed em

I got this dog house that is huge, and will fit many many ducks in it. (was on sale at Southern States) and some feed for them, some dishes (had those, apparently, I was informed when I got home, I thought all our feed dishes were out and being used already).

So, now I am just trying to warm up and I'm not doing a very good job of it. I have to go back out in a bit to mix some chicken feed, and check water for them, and then later to turn out lights, but that is it. I'm not budging from this house again today even if it catches on fire, I'll just sit here and sizzle happily.

Well, folks, I am gonna go make hubby fire up the woodstove so I can toast my feet by it.

Then I got to find something for him to eat for dinner (me and the kids will have leftover chinese food

Well I'm glad he wasn't too mad. And the drake will start perking up and taking care of himself now that he isn't being harrassed by other drakes. He tried to groom but wasn't washing in water because they'd kick him out threateningly.
