Mojo Chick'n :

well, here I am.

welcome mahen

The duckies know the routine now - made hubby laugh yesterday. Every morning I let them out of their pen and pull the food, water and doghouse out. Every evening I put it all back in and tell them it's time for bed, and they go into the pen on their own.

This morning, I did all the morning routine - except I forgot to let the chickens out right after. instead I went to feed donkeys first. Little girl ducky had a hissy fit quacking at me, following me to the donkey pen, quacking quacking quacking.... so I went and let the chickens out, and she ran over to them and chattered away - having a morning chat with a couple of hens. After that she was fine.

maybe I need to let the chickens out first, then let the ducks out. Of course, then she would probably quack until I let HER out, and still make noise in the morning

. I don't mind, she always stops whenever she gets whatever it is she was wanting.

Oh, I got my taxidermied Puffer Fish yesterday !! it is cool looking (it is a porcupine one). It's on a little string, so I can hang it up from the ceiling
big_smile.png
It's about 5 inches diameter - a nice sized one. Not too big, not too small. I ordered one for my sister, too, for Christmas (when she comes down this spring we're exchanging gifts).

hmm... what else....

Friday weather is looking decent, so I'll be going to Sano (unless hubby has jury duty, again). Shelley, I can let ya know if I'm going, and I can bring the japs with me. I usually leave Sano to go home by 5 o'clock or so, though, when they all go inside to the auction. I'm only there an hour this time of year - too cold to stand around shivering just to stand there. Come summer I'll stand around half the night, but right now - brrrrrr.

I'm thinking of taking a trio or maybe just a pair of bantam cochins - not sure which ones, but the white and the golden laced seem to have taken a liking to Rudy (and he has been kinder to them during breeding
lau.gif
he was very rough at first) so It'll probably be Hoss and one of the blacks - or both blacks. I may just sell a pair, since I have such a wide range of colors, I want to have some variety of babies.
Unless Cindy wants Hoss, of course, then she gets first dibs - since I got Hoss from her, and she mentioned having a white to breed him with. (bold added to get Cindy's attention

)

No eggs yet out of any of the cochin girls, though
sad.png
what's up with that?

well, gonna go cruise around a bit.

Hey...Got my attention!

Yes I'll take Hoss...And if you are going to sell LucyToo's sis I'll take her too. Otherwise just Hoss.

Thanks for the offer, Cindy

Ok, I'm still thinking on the blacks - I'll let ya know - just checked weather and it has changed yet again - it is supposed to be fabulous on friday (52 degrees, wind from the south). Hubby says unless he gets picked for jury duty on thursday then he is free friday (let's hope).

Allrighty then, Hoss is yours

Not sure about any of the girls, yet - on the one hand I don't need 4 cochin hens, and on the other hand, I want to keep them all

I'll figure it out sooner or later.

Does anyone know if Somerset's area code is still 606? I was trying to call some pet stores there, to see if they would be interested in buying or selling button quail, and all 3 that are in the book said the number is not in service
hmm.png
I'm thinking I would probably need to go to a bigger market, like Bowling Green or Louisville anyway, but since Somerset is closer I thought I'd try there first.

Hoss is a buff columbian bantam cochin that Cindy brought back from the state fair for me this past fall. He is pretty, and sweet - but the girls prefer Rudy, so I am thinking it would be easier on them if I had just one roo. I named him Hoss cause he just has that personality

I think so, let me check Cindys number (I have it written down here somewhere...)

Yep Cindy's is 606 area code.

I'm still seriously considering getting some quail this summer for eating purposes. So if anyone knows where I can get some eggs locally or some chicks (or breeder stock at a reasonable price) let me know. I'd like the larger quail (I think they are Jumbo Cortournix - sp?).

I have that big cage I can put them into now, and I had planned on using it for transport, but if it has quail in it then that's ok too

eta - we're looking at smokers (for meat) so I am wondering how good smoked quail would be.... mmmmm, methinks it would be good.

Uh, hello?? Shelley has 11 jumbo quail that still need a home!!

Shelley You have the right area code, but Dave was the only pet shop in town and I believe Cortni said he was going to have to close his doors. I haven't been over that way in a while so I don't know if it is already closed or not. I was listed under D & L pets if it is still open.

Well that's too bad. That's one thing I hate about this area, if they can't eat it, they don't want it!! I used to go to petsmart all the time in Florida just to look at the birds and stuff, I kinda miss that

Thanks Cindy
