Yep, brown egg layer, and my Brahmas are my best layers - I have one girl who consistantly lays a double yolker. Yesterday it might have been a triple - haven't broken it open yet, but if I didn't know better, I'd swear that goose broke into the coop and laid it.

I'm getting some more brahmas monday - not sure how many - getting them from the feedstore. I want to get a cockerel (or maybe two, so I can choose my roo) and some pullets. One good thing about hatching so many Brahma chicks is I can sex them almost from hatch by their combs - I've been right on the mark so far with them.

I might get some more Black Australorps, too - I like how they lay so well, too (and they're funny birds).

Oh, for anyone near me (Shelley and whomever wants to make the drive) the Gradyville big consignment auction is April 25th. I'll post the particulars soon (don't have the paper in my office right now).

I didn't know Gradyville had a big auction! I wonder if it is as big as the one in Liberty?

I'll have to copy this for Julie - she hadn't heard when it was yet.

I just got the flyer in the mail today, they should have theirs soon.

This is only their second year having it. I can't recall if that's the one I went to last year or not - I know I went to one or two over there.

One was a benefit auction for the guy who was in the car accident - this one might be different.

About all I have right now is quail. My dad has some that are RIR mixes. Most should be pure, he has 4 RIR roos and 25ish hens. They share the coop with 3 big white roos, 1 light brahma hen, and 3 SLW hens. Other than that, I would only have mixed-breed bantam eggs, and a couple of mille fleur d'uccles. I have 1 mille hen that lays everyday, and one that lays about every 3rd day. Oh yeah, and I have ducks

This one is also a benefit, for the Amish people. It also asks for donations, for community members' doctor bills and such. Donations or consignments, that is. So basically they want you to sell your stuff there, so they can raise more money. I will be taking some things there, just because there are soooooo many people there!! I'll have to get there at like 6 a.m. so my stuff isn't last in line!

Last fall, the stuff that went later in the day was dirt cheap, cause everyone had left just about.

how much for half a dozen rir eggs?

Howdy all. I just thought I'd drop a line and let you know that I am still alive. I worked an eleven hour 'day' shift yesterday. My body is not taking this day/night transition very well.

I have daffadills trying to bloom in my front yard. The crocus is up but not blooming yet and the turtle doves are at my front door begging for hand outs. Perhaps the same pair from about the last 5 years and some of their offspring. Spring... Yes I think it is finally comming. Yea... MOJO!

My Broody hen (NH) is still sitting tight after one week now. I'm proud of her. My older hen sat for a couple of days and then gave up. Its a shame... I have a lot of eggs and my bator is full. Probably all mutts. Maybe some pure Black Jerseys tho.

My (Cornish Roo X Del hen) meat chickens are doing okay. It seems only the roos are getting much bigger. Boy they sure look like mean Del roos without a comb or waddles, but I am constantly supprised that they are so gentle. Perhaps because I handle all my chickens each day. I don't know. Some of the hens peck my pant legs just like the Delaware hens I use to have. They still don't like being picked up but always come around me. I have to move slowly among them.

My two week old Barred rocks are doing well, and the chicks I hatched on New years day have intergrated well into the flock. The two barred rocks I thought were roos seem to be hens now, since they haven't started to develope any roo characteristics. I guess ShelleyeD knows what she is talking about with the Barred rocks.

And sorry ShelleyeD; no new "adventures" so far.

I bought a auto timer today to put in the coop to increase the amount of daylight for the non layers. Already had one in the layers coop.

We are supposed to get about a ½ inch of snow today. Yuk. Earlier this year would have been okay but I really want spring to get here. I guess winter still has a hold on things.

Hope you'all have fun at your swap meets. I am going to be keeping a closed flock. (Scared of getting any nasties.) And I have too many now anyway. I may go sometime and sell off some that I haven't become attached.

Well... Youall have a good one.

As I am writing this, it is snowing like crazy, slick as snot outside and I have to go pick up 19 frizzle's in the morning. So, should I go? Yes, I will, good Lord's willing...I wanna see em...lol...I am addicted to frizzle's...Peace
