Kentucky people

Looks like rain out there today, but none has fallen here yet.

I put that olive egger girl into George's coop last night - poor girl was out-growing the cage she was in, and I hated to leave her there another week and a half before I could go to Sano. She seems to be getting along ok - Fluffy and Gump appear to have made friends with BC, so now she isn't all by herself all day. I felt bad for BC, but it was her own choosing to hide from everyone else all the time.

Benny keeps taking more hay out of the duckhouse and throwing it into the pool - stoop!d gander. I don't know if he thinks he's making a nest in it for Joon or what, but it sure makes a mess. He's been working his charm on her lately, if ya know what I mean - I cant wait to get some eggs from them.

Heard the coyotes going mad last night - it must be spring

Luckily they were off on the far ridge, so they weren't close. I imagine as loud as TeaCake is, they'll stay further away this year. They get pretty loud when they're close, so I am guessing they were easily two or three miles off when I heard em.

That khaki duck is hiding her eggs on me, now. I saw her under the duckhouse yesterday trying to lay one - she couldn't even stand underneath it, I'm not even sure how she squeezed under there. I just hope she stays out of the woods with them

I was gonna grab the offer on the Waterfowl Trade Swap, but if I don't have eggs to offer back, then I can't really take it (current offer is two or three buff geese eggs and a pair of Appleyard duck eggs -- I want the appleyards). OOPS just checked, it got snatched already, now up is 2 embden and 1 chinese goose eggs.

Shelley, I'm surprised you haven't noticed that one yet.... like ya need another swap thread

Well, gonna cruise around a bit.

Woohoo!! I'm getting Silver Appleyard duck eggs - hope I can get em to hatch

Those are such pretty ducks.

Of course, this means I need to have fewer Swedish

I promised hubby I would make him build me just ONE waterfowl pen and I would adjust the number of ducks accordingly if I added any others to it.

Wish we'd have two or three nice days in a row to get the pen done, so I can put the ducks in it!! (or a nice day without other stuff to do so I can work on it.)

Yeah, I'm actually holding off on swapping right now, and just trying to sell. I really need to make some money, not give eggs away! I haven't had very good luck at all with getting swapped eggs to hatch, most of them don't even start developing.

ETA: And that swap is for pures, and all mine are together. I'm sure there would be a lot of pures, but I couldn't guarantee it. So I'll just stick to hatching my own for right now!

Yeah, I'm not sure I'll do much swapping on there, but I am hooked on waterfowl, now.

WesternChick and I are doing a private swap, since I didn't go for the swap she had up (I actually had the chance to, I was the first to see it after Shady declined). I figure the goose eggs are too much work for me, though, but duck eggs I can do.

I also am not sure anyone would want mixed color ducks, even if they are pure call ducks. I'd hate to stop the thread dead

Okay guys, just wanted to give everyone a heads up on what I'll be taking to Sano tomorrow, in case someone from here wants something I have!

3 mille fleur d'uccles cockerels---about 6-8 weeks old
1 pair BR---a little over 15 weeks old
6-8 coturnix quail males---about 4 weeks old (I think these are jumbos, but not 100% sure)
6-8 various chicks---3 weeks old and younger (mostly OEG or EE)
10-14 mixed breed bantam----4-5 months old, some are laying

Dad will be taking some of his young pullets and cockerels, buff orps and light brahma, I guess

I think that's it, but he may take his pups again. If anyone is interested in the pups, let me know, and I'll make sure he takes them with. 3 female, 1 male, almost purebred beagle.

Well, after looking more closely at those 110 chicks - the ones I thought were black australorp are barred rocks

still have not figured out what the reddish babies are - their wings coming in have darker bars on them.

could be, it would be nice to have a clue, though, before I sell them

Maybe since there are only 9 of them they are red sex link hens (that would be nice, at least I'd know I had some girls

) and some of the white ones are red sex link boys? The white ones, some are more yellowish than others around the head, so maybe they aren't all white rocks.

anyway, I got to go for now - wish I could go to Sano tomorrow, I really need to get rid of some stuff

Put some of the chicks in a box and stick them in the back of the car. Then you could just be like a midway caller and tell everyone what you have? The chicks would stay warmer if they were inside your vehicle anyway.

Oh, and I know absolutely nothing about id'ing sexlinks, so you're on your own there!

I got my marans today!! I can't wait for them to grow up and start laying.

Do you all know anything about white rocks? I got two from TSC. (Well actually I only thought I got one, but when we got home I discovered that my 2 year old had added a few extra chicks to our box and we didn't realize it or pay for them...oops.) One of them has pure white wing feathers coming in, and the other one has white feathers with a little darker barring. I have googled and searched and I can't find anything about what that could mean...
