Kentucky people

Have them send in annoucements to the TV stations for their weekend agenda programs. That way you will possibly get a bigger draw in attendance. They have to be in at least two weeks before the event happens.

The announcements will need to include the following.

Name of Sponsoring Organization
Type of Event
Date, Time and Place
Admission charge (If any)
Contact Person & Information Phone Number(If Possible)

The stations will post the announcement during the morning news broadcast on Saturdays/Sundays free of charge. It is part of their community service that they do.

I went to the show in shelbyville saturday but I was so sick I didn't even get to look around.

My husband went down to the farmers market and got some good green onions though. I hope next time there is a show I will get to go and look around.

I know that Jefferson County's last day is June 3rd for students, if that is any help. (Sometimes it is useful being a teacher

Meri, I hope you get everything taken care of, how stressful!

My chicks are doing well in their new coop and run. When we let them out in the run all day on Saturday I went out to put them back in that night and they were already in. They are such good little chickens, knowing to go in and roost at night, I thought they'd have to learn that over time. They certainly do not like the young ones though. I will have to wait until they are bigger but at some point they'll have to learn to get along. I am thinking when the little ones are 4-5 weeks I can put them in th coop in a cage to introduce them and maybe after awhile they'll get used to each other.
I had the bigger chickens out in the yard with me today while I was gardening and a robin flew in, Domino ran after it and chased it out of the yard. It was too funny, I wish I'd had my video camera. Then later I went in to find some more seeds and some neighbor kids had snuck in my backyard. I kind of snapped at them at first then caved and let them see the chickens. But I did not like how they acted and I'm glad I have the chickens locked up while I'm at work. I am a little scared those kids will come back and harm my chicks.
Well, I better get to bed so I can get up bright and early and teach tomorrow!

Moon, that's why I keep my gates locked and no tresspassing signs posted on my property. If there is any mischief going on, they will probably be involved. Another good reason to get some sort of Dog, that can guard the property, and not bother the chickens. Of course with me being home at different times, the little nieghborhood cretins don't bother me.

Well Both the OEGB hens and the Mille Fluer hens have definitely gone broody, and so far two babies have hatched and survived. All four hens are brooding in the same nest, talk about sardines! I'll try and get a decent picture tomorrow of all four hens in the nest together with the babies. I guess the Milles are more agressive in protecting babies than the OEGBs. Although it seems that the OEGBs are the moms, the Milles are the ones protecting the babies.

I haven't had a broody millie yet, but my OEGB's have always acted like they'd eat you up if you try to get their babies! Of course, I say acted like, cause I was able to pick mom and babies both up to move them

She just likes to act tough. Now a standard OEG??? That's a whole different story! My dad's hen hatched 12 chicks the past few days, and where she was setting, the babies were having trouble coming off the nest. Dad was getting them, and mama was getting him!!

It was funny, but Cris was there to see it, so I think he'll leave her alone

So far, my silkies have 7 or 8 babies. There are 2 hens each on 2 nests, and the ones in that tractor have another hen setting with them as well. This is the group that has hatched the chicks so far. The chicks are every bit of 3 days old (the oldest ones anyway). One hen will get off the nest and feed the babies (food and water inside the tractor of course), then when the babies are fed, the 'mama' and babies will all go back on the nest!

Funniest thing I've ever seen!

On a sad note, my one and only buff silkie baby is gone

Dad's stupid dog killed it today. Not sure what the deal was there, cause she never bothers them. Dad thinks the chick got too close to the dog's food bowl. Idk, but it really ticks me off. I paid $70 for the eggs (38 total), hatched 2 chicks (1 buff, 1 cuckoo), and the only buff is gone

Dad gave me $5 for the chick his dog killed.....Gee, thanks Dad

Sorry to hear about your buff silky baby, Shelley. My buff baby is still in the brooder with the rest of them at the moment. Once she is older and starts laying, I'll let you have some of her babies. Only thing is that they will be Buff X Partridge silkies. As far as the hens go, I just reach in and move them by their tails.

I only have 2 hens that are real peckers. Those are Gertie and her daughter, the one that has taken up with the silkies in the tractor. Actually, Gretta my OEG and her daughter are pretty pecky too, with me anyway. I would go and check them at night. Gertie and her daughter are dad's job, it doesn't matter what time of day you check them, they'll still draw blood!

I usually go and scoop the hens up under their booty, it works

Better than trying to hold them, they always freak out and fly away!

Yep...I know the feeling... My last post was about 4:00 am. Nobody up but us chickens!

Oh and ShelleyD for some reason. I think she is trying to sell some of her flock.

The reds are dad's flock, he has finally realized that it doesn't pay to have so many chickens, just to give the eggs away. So I guess he's not as dumb as I thought

I don't think I was up quite that late, but I was up a lot later than I should have. My button quail have finally started laying, I have good reports on my coturnix eggs, so I was wrapping up eggs to send out. I'm still not done
th.gif
Getting about a dozen eggs from the coturnix quail a day now, and 4 or 5 from the buttons, so I've been busy with them!
gig.gif
But I cut it down some, I had almost 60 coturnix eggs, and no place to set them. I think I'm down to 19 now, but that's not counting the ones I already have from today. Another of the A&M's has started to lay, so that's another egg added to the already 12+ I get a day. Think I went a bit overboard on the quail, I might cut it back to only 1 group each of 6 or 8 birds, instead of groups being 10-12
big_smile.png
I have about 40 quail right now, and half of them are babies

Hey bluedog, I have a naked neck blue egg layer chick from Dipsy Doodle Doo's birds, you want it? I don't need no #@$! naked necks

ETA: It's a frizzle too, blue splash colored
