And I know what you mean about Bluedog's birds, I'd be all over the bantam cochins if I had any money!!

waiting, waiting..... Most of my pullets ought to be laying soon - my guess is within the next month at most, and the next two weeks at the soonest. I have 2 buff orps laying right now, and some barred rock girls getting red faces.

I had a "chat" with hubby tonight, you know, those tough love chats....

I told him that I do NOT want to build anymore chicken coops - money or time/materials - I want the four that I have to work for me. Plus, I don't want to have to feed so many chickens.

So... Meri is being brutal (once again) with herself and figuring out who goes and who stays.

What I have for keeping, so far, is George and his girls (of course) and breeders are gonna be Orps and BR and Giant Cochins. The cochins I'm just keeping the blacks (3 birds) so I'm gonna put them in the top coop (the brooder coop) cause I figure they'll be nicer to the babies than other chickens might be. I won't have many eggs or babies out of them, but it'll be something different to throw in now and then. At least they might brood me some other babies, so not a total loss even if they hardly lay eggs at all.

This means some of my very beautiful and beloved chickens must go.

This also means I'll be very careful who gets my prized roos. The hens and pullets I can be more lenient, but I have a couple of roos there that can ONLY go to someone who plans to keep them as a Flock Rooster. I'll find a place, I've already had many offers for Mr. Speckles.

But, this will allow me to concntrate on the three breeder groups and make those flocks outstanding (I hope).

I hear major peepage from the hatchery room - might have another baby hatched.... nope, not yet.

I have pips on Shelley's eggs, and a LOT of pips on my own eggs, so I'll have a lot more babies soon. I had one baby hatch early yesterday - he is residing with the quail babies

poor guy, they are so hyper and he is a bit slow, yet.

So, Sano or Liberty - I'll have a ton of chickens for sale soon. I may talk the guy who bought my donkeys into taking Mr. Speckles as his flock roo - he has a nice big place over there, and I know he wants some chickens.

Meri, does that mean you are getting rid of Feathers? If so, I'd prefer to come and get him back (even if it upsets the neighbors). I love that little guy and hate to think he might end up being eaten. Just let me know!
