Welcome

I'm not very local (I'm in Central KY) but I have some Columbian Rocks that need a home (all pullets). They are point of lay, and I have about 5 of those (someone spoke for two of them, or I'd have 7 of them for sale).

Other than that, alll I have are various chicks from 2 week up to 2 months old, or roosters.

wish I could help ya out.

Ok, now... don't think I'm a total idiot, guys.....

When I checked little baby donkey, I lifted the leg really fast and looked quick and that was it - I was pretty sure I saw no wanger. I didn't want to linger and tick off Michelle, since the baby was less than a day old and she was still nervous from the night before.

today baby donkey was taking a pee and guess what

we got a boy.

I have yet to tell hubby - he's gonna be bummed. Being a boy means he is gonna have to go when he is old enough to sell.

He is such a pretty color of grey, too - darker than the usual, more of a smokey grey.

sort of sucks waiting a full year for two baby donkeys - one dies before term and the other is born a jack. (the dead one was a jack, too). (plus waiting for Mama's baby and turns out she isn't pregnant

)

Well, we have 8 donkeys

so I guess we really don't NEED another one, but it would have been nice to be able to keep the first born here on the farm.

I guess no one posts here anymore but me

Hmmm... well, I am 40 chicken lighter in the coop today.

Sold 40 barred rock chickens (ages from around 3 weeks to 2 months).

Only about 50 or 60 more chickens to go to get down to the keepers again

Not many post on here anymore huh?

I checked our messages today (I check maybe 2 or 3 times a week, unless I'm using the phone). Apparently someone saw an old ad of mine on bestfarmbuys.com about quail, and called and left a message. THEY LIVE IN VIRGINIA!! Now why would someone want to drive 6 hours to get quail, when I'm sure there are people more local to them that have some? I haven't called them back yet (too late), but I seriously doubt they are going to want to come all this way for some birds. Maybe they just want eggs?

I need to do another head count, cause since my dog killed (current total=20 chickens) it looks very bare around here. I counted them a month or so ago, and it was about 150....but there is no way there are 150 chickens here!

Oh, and I guess I can ramble a bit about what happened around here today.....

let's see, we apparently have a new stray cat in town, it is white and it almost got Cinn - my EE girl. She was in the woods (naughty chicken) and I heard her screech and come running out of there losing feathers as she ran, and I looked and saw a white flash running off - sent Toby after it, and he chasedit off. hope it stays gone.

Cinn wasn't injured, just freaked her out and took a few loose feathers off her back.

TeaCake is in Jail. I have him in one of the corrals by himself. Today he decided that Michelle was rested up enough from giving birth to mate with him, so he chased her silly around the pasture, then caught her by her nose with his teeth and held on for dear life (until hubby went out there). so I put him in jail for awhile.

I know Jacks get aggressive about mating sometimes, but sheesh, Blackjack isn't like that. Tea is too short to mate with Michelle even if she wanted him to. I may have to find a new home for the little guy if he doesn't straighten up soon - none of the girls like him at all. I can't say as I blame them, he is rude and obnoxious to everyone.

Even Butters (who I got him to mate with) runs from him when she sees him coming.

Guess that's all for now, I need a cig and a soda.

still have not figured out what sex it is.

Yeah, I think I have way more than I actually do, too. I know how many keepers I have, but no idea how many "for sale" I have right now.

yeah, I'll try doing that tomorrow. I been busy the last couple of days.

I personally think it's a girl, but it's a bantam, so I'm having a harder time telling cause I have no idea how old it is. (it was given to me for free).

The ones I hatched from my birds, most of the roos were obvious by about 6 or 8 weeks old. The girls didn't have any comb whatsoever. There was one I wasn't completely sure about, I thought it was a roo, but it didn't have as big a comb as the other roos. But it turned out to be a roo as well.
