Ok, try Columbia (Breeding/Sparksville is where I am, technically) Edmonton, Burkesville areas. All three are smaller sized towns. (Only Columbia has a
Walmart, if that matters
) Campbellesville is about 18 miles north of Columbia (has a
walmart and a
tsc and a lowes).
when we looked, I just stuck my finger on the map (ended up being Columbia) and I started searching there.
We actually looked the year before out eastern KY, loved the scenery, didn't care for the roads
the roads around here aren't much wider but at least they don't ice up (or if they do it melts off by 10 AM - as does the snow usually). sometimes get flooding in winter on some lower roads, but none that I've ever driven on, those are usually the "really" backroads.
In winter instead of snow we get rain - and since we have clay soil, we have Mud Season
it is a relief when it actually freezes up a little
Chicken coop concerns are flooding and mud, mostly - I just put a lot of sand in my run, to keep it from being a poopy slurry. (but don't ask about my barn
especially this year - I got cows now, gonna be a real treat... NOT.)
Shelley is right - LOTS of trees. The drive down to Burkesville/Lake Cumberland is like driving through a National Park at times - very pretty scenery here. I'm convinced that most of the accidents down here happen because someone was looking at scenery and hit a stone wall.
One other Adair County plus - our licence plate tabs are cheaper than Metcalfe county or any other county around, I think. (36 bucks)
Oh, you can try Russell county, also - Russell Springs is the county seat. it is about 15 miles from Columbia (Somerset is a larger city too - they even have a Mall, I hear
never been to it, though). Somerset is about 40 miles from Columbia.
one more thing to add --- my property taxes last year were 117 bucks (for the full year) on 25 acres.
