From my end of the Coop.

My White Cornish hen was found in a nesting box with two chicks, one of which wasn't hers. Now for a hen that grabbed a chick that was a few days old and flings it in the air with seemingly violent intent, this came to me as a bit of a supprise. The chick is the intermediate aged one as there are four chicks older and four chicks younger to it and it is the only chick of a pepper colored hen. (it is also pepper colored) Well, there it was poking its head out from beneith the Cornish hens wing along with one of her younger chicks beneith it. Some times I don't understand chickens.

It's momma hen was outside the nest looking in and trying to get in as well.? Kind of like the story "There they go, I must hurry after them because I am their leader." Momma hen seems to say, "Here is where I need to roost because here is my chick".

The momma hen of the two youngest is still hiding from the other hens along with her two chicks. The hen with the oldest four chicks has started laying eggs again. (I think) Yea! Finally five eggs a day out of 16 hens. And the crazy hyper-active full blooded Dark Cornish is still just as paranoid as ever. I really cannot handle that type of personality in a chicken, thank goodness there is only one of them now. I'm afraid that its personality will permanitly fix the younger ones to be scared of me for life.

I gave away a couple of bags of deep litter to one of the floor maintainance people who weekly buffs the floor at the store where I work. He was tickled to death. First time I have given anyone s*** and them be happy about it. He had heard I had chickens and had been bugging me for weeks. Little does he know that the bags cost me a bunch in wood chips, sand, grit, and chicken feed. All used and composted for months in order to get the right consistancy. Kind of like a fine wine or aged burbon. I call it Kentucky Aged Chcken Excrement or (KACE) for short. KACE does a garden good. It just takes a bit of time to fully intergrate it two feet deep into the soil.

Well enough crowing from my end of the coop. Hope you'all are doing fine in yours.

Hey all I am having to get rid of most of my flock. We decided to move back into our house in town and chickens even though not illegal caused us all kinds of harassment so we a going down from 34 birds to 7. With 7 I am hoping and praying I can cut down on how often I will have to come out here to load up feed and water. My mom can let them out for me. Temporary solution I guess. Anyway if anyone is looking for birds. I have a few competition birds we got for the kiddies from the sadieville swap and lovely roo and his harem of 4 laying hens, a couple polishes, and a couple young BO hens.

Hi Guys, Where are the swaps? I am In Oldham County (just moved so don't know where anything is yet) and want some docile, quiet, egg producers like: Wyandote, Australthorp, Dominique, or Sussex...I know the list goes on, but my little guy even reacts to eggs when the chicken has eaten soy...soooooooooooooo I will be making a custom mix....meaning that these girls have got to earn their keep....and my son is really looking forward to them so I need them sweet as pie too

We are working on a coop that should be done well within a couple of months for 5-6 girls. No roos here unfortunately, too many retirees that complain about little things. We have an acre of space, so a mobile tractor with a nice nest-house will suit the bill. I saw some that I really like with an a-frame run...but can't afford to buy one. Gotta pick up the hammer! If get get a couple of really nice hens, I bet our little guy would love to compete or show her. Maybe we could get a roo if I feel it out for a few months first. I figure they will be a lot more tolerant if it is a cute little house

We can even roll it into the barn or our swinghouse in bad weather, especially after detaching the run. Drop me a line to fill me in. I can't wait. I haven't had chickens for years.

Well, helped hubby and sis-in-law set up the booth yesterday at Court Days in Mt Sterling. OMG are there a bunch of booths there today. A person just has to keep walking and they'll finally end up with someplace that looks familiar. Was fun though. Didn't get out of there til around 2ish to head home. Next year they are talking about having me stay the whole weekend.

Hi - I'm in Louisville and am in urgent need of help. There is a gorgeous chicken in my backyard. Since last night. People who I think own him are denying it because they've been in trouble numerous times with animal control. Not sure if they're raising for eggs or just to eat. I don't want him put down which is what happens if animal control comes.

Can anyone come get? I can't get close to it and know nothing about chickens.
Thanks, Megan

I am in need of a white silkie roo. There have been other offers but they are all to far away. Which always seems to be the problem. My hens are just starting to lay but I really don't want their efforts to go to waste so I need a young roo for them. If anybody has one that is about 2 hours away from north west Tennessee, please PM me with pic and what your asking.
