Kentucky people

I'm looking for hatching eggs of any pure breeds.. can handle anything from 1 to 18 dozen eggs.. More than one breed can be included but must be marked as to which is what!

would like these to be fairly close to Dunnville, Ky or can pick up a Sano Goat Auction in Adair Co.

Im completely new to chickens... no idea where to begin. We live just south of Lexington. My little one was given 6 chicks (ummmm toddlerish - they have feathers) last week as a "gift". I have no idea what they are.... or anything else about them. The person that gifted the chickens graciously built them a coop. Guess Im saying hi because I have to post to be able to post pics of our new family members to find out what the heck we have?!

I only know about the Frankfort one and it is every month on the 4th Sat~I went to the last one of the year in Sept & they have a Chicken Show also,so it was big(for Frankfort) & I sold my late chicks there, didn't show but met a lot of different chicken people. I also like Bob's Hay Barn Swap~the 1st Sat of every month in Shelbyville, KY and it is totally Free.
I am so sorry about u losing ur feed especially now when we really need it & it is soooo $$$$. Are u certain that the feed store guy just didn't put that last bag on ur truck or did u see it go off ?

No, I know he put it on there. Between me and dad we got 550# of feed, 350# of it was mine. 1 of mine and 1 of dad's was in 100# bags and the rest were 50# bags. I saw the guy put 2-100# bags on the truck but there was only 1 when we got home.

In the spirit of swap meets, Sano Goat and Sheep Auction has started having a swap every 1st and 3rd Saturday morning in addition to their weekly Friday night auctions. Set-up for the swap on Saturday is $5 but you can set up for free on Friday nights or sell on commission in the auction. I've yet to attend the Saturday swap because both have fallen on days I had shows to go to, but hopefully I'll at least get to go look next month and see if it is worth going to.

this month has been lousy for SWAPS because of the weather and a lot of them are out in the open. I've been lucky & sold to other chicken people but it is always better if they can attract people just starting to think about getting chickens. And I think the shows help bring people in ? A local Feed Store in Taylorsville/ Spencer County has tried to start a swap, however, it has been bad weather every SAT & they were wanting $10 to set up now they say First time is Free but I would not pay over $5.00 to set up somewhere, especially now the gas is also over the top.
How have you been doing @ the Shows?

The last one I went to 2 weeks ago I was just an observer but the one I went to today did pretty good. I took 2 pair, a cock and hen and a cockerel and pullet--all serama. I got reserve cock, best hen, best cockerel, and reserve pullet. So not bad

Unfortunately they were small numbers (as usual) so not much competition but I have high hopes for my little cockerel

If anyone else in the area has American Serama, ladrifter and I are trying to get a serama-only show set up locally for sometime this summer. The details aren't ironed out very well yet but we're hoping to get a lot of interest in these adorable little birds

The Breeder in Mackville, KY, I bought my Blue Orpingtons from have them also & she wanted to know if I wanted some hatching eggs? However I just don't have enough pens for too many different breeds. but they are so adorable ! And I know that my granddaughters would be so excited if I got some, they love little chickens. I think that all animal shows will be lite on entries because of the economy & now the gas. We used to show horses & the $$$ adds up for travel & entries & you don't get much when you win !
Congratulations on ur Seramas

With serama you don't get anything when you win since they aren't technically recognized as of right now. When they finally get that done (it's done, just waiting on approval from the ABA BOD) the only variety that could win would be whites. We are working on getting more colors accepted but it is a long job. But you do get recognition and 'prestige'...serama are one of the most valuable birds with many selling up to $500 or better.
