Quite a few of mine seem to be hanging out inside the coop.

Guess they're COLD!

Mine are doing the same thing. 3 went broody yesterday. Not on my watch, lol. They were humped outside to go play in the snow. Especially when they're my nicest SOP stock and I'm putting all eggs in the incubator. I guess it's good I don't have kids. No playstation in my house - go outside!

So is it cold enough for everybody? Last winter my birds didn't mind the weather, but this very sudden change has them all hovering around the coop. I'm beginning to wonder if 2 are going broody to avoid the outdoors.

I didn't know that the cold weather could push them into becoming broody!!! I'll have to keep an eye on mine. They did not want to go out on the frozen snowy ground this morning, but they were all out by early afternoon.

Oh, and my kids have a playstation but I still make them go outside.

Mine are on timered lights. It tricks them into thinking it's the middle of the summer so they'll lay. Wyandottes are broody anyways. It gets cold and "hey" it's time to hang out in the nest boxes and growl.

Yep... mine are hangin around & in the coops more too since its turned cold & they are pickin back up on their egg layin, thank goodness. My piggy is not liking this cold weather either she says snuggled under the hay & straw most of the day... she comes out when she hears food, the goats dont seem to mind it too much & the ducks could care less they still walk all over the yard

I have mine on timed lights, too. With 19 hens I'm getting about 14 eggs a day, give or take a couple.

I wish I had a video of them the morning after it snowed. We just got enough to cover the ground, but when I opened the run and they flocked to get out, there was a pile up in the doorway as they weren't sure they wanted to go out with that white stuff. LOL Finally a few brave girls took the leap (ok, well after I tossed some scratch grains of encouragement).

I had to deal with frozen water inside the coop today for the first time this season...oh how I wish it was in the 50's again. My girls' egg production took a nose dive after it turned cold a couple of days ago. I went from about 10/day down to just 2 today. It looks like I am going to have to break out the lights again.

I have heated bases for the galvanized waterers but, somehow they all decided to leak this past couple of days. We've been rotating the plastic waterers I usually use in the summer in the whirlpool tub to melt. Thank goodness we have a standup shower! I just had my spined fused 10 days ago so poor DH has taken up my chicken chores. I can't wait to be full strength again!!

mine too took a nose dive. I need some info on the light thing,I understand the timer but what kind of bulb do you use and for how long. I don't want any heat in the house so i am having a hard time with how much light. Does it just need to be "not dark" for a few more hours. Do you do yours a m or p m thanks

Mine dont seem to mind the cold. They are and have been being normal chickens.
