kids and bb guns

Strangely enough, being the baby, I didn't get into trouble for shooting my brother - he got into trouble for having the gun out when Mom and Dad weren't home. He wanted to shoot cans, and I just wanted to watch.

My brother was 7 years older than I was - old enough to know better.

My brother was also (undiagnosed) Bi-Polar, hence my wanting to shoot him. He would be my buddy one minute, then he would threaten to kill me, and he'd beat me up.

He should never have had any sort of gun at all. My dad gave him a rifle for Christmas one year - he was "cleaning it" (< his excuse) in the house and blew the doorknob off the door to the stairway. I was standing 4 foot from the door, and got hit with debris - I guess I'm lucky that's all I got hit with.

But, like I said, it's a parenting thing - My Dad just happened to be an idiot - he should never have let my brother have a weapon of any kind (this is the same kid who stabbed himself in the leg with his new hunting knife).

I don't condone shooting your brother with a BB Gun, by any means - but I do admit, after all the torture he did to me, it felt wickedly good to shoot that sucker.

I had a BB gun at age 8.

I had a powerful pellet gun at at 10.

I had a .22 rifle and a 20 gauge shotgun at age 12.

I got to use a deer rifle at age 15.

I was always taught that they could be dangerous, that they should NEVER be pointed at or near a person or any kind of personal property that could be damaged by them.

I was told horror stories of those who had not been careful with a gun. I saw the results of a kid two years older than me who lost his life by accident with a shotgun in our small farming community.

As long as a kid has room to roam and is taught guns safety from the earliest of age, I don't have a problem with kids having BB guns.

A present my 14 year old and my 12 year old own pellet guns... because we live in the city, I feel badly that they can't grow up using them like I did.

Yesterday we were watching "Red Dawn" together... my kids were saying... wow dad, we're glad you've taught us how to use guns... and I smiled.

If someone came into our home as part of a home invasion, I'm afraid they wouldn't leave alive at my home.... too many people who know how to use guns properly live here.

"You'll shoot your eye out kid. HO HO HO..." puts boot on kids head and pushes him down the slide.

Yeah... This is not gong to do as much damage as this if shot at someone. That second one easily goes through a skull of a 20-40 lb animal.

Have fun! It's a great skill.

That depends upon your definition of a BB gun. To me a BB gun is a spring powered smoothbore, the traditional Daisy. The second gun you showed is a high powered air rifle, while they can shoot BBs, most would not call that a BB gun.

I had BB guns, Daisy type spring guns, when I was young. My cousins and I were terrors with them. They were nothing more than toys to us, we shot at each other and everything in sight. We never put an eye out or drew blood, but I'm sure we destroyed a lot of things. I took hunting safety early on and was very conscientious about gun safety, except when fooling around with the BB guns. I later graduated to a Daisy pump type air rifle that I won from Ducks Unlimited. I only shot pellets with it and gave it a lot more respect as a gun.

lol this reminds me of "the Chrsitmas Story" lol "you'll shoot ur eye out!" lol

im 15 and i play airsoft wars with my friends but i also like shootin cans and dolls and old toys with my dads Gammo Air Gun which is just a BB gun i think......

so it all just depends on what type of kids we are talkin aboot here

A couple kids in my neighborhood had BB guns when I was growing up. One of them turned out to be a real brat, and sent another kid to the ER after shooting him in the head at close range. After that, all the parents got together and agreed, cap guns only, because the bratty kid was actually firing someone else's BB gun.

This was also back in the olden days, when people knew their neighbors and parents took responsibility for their children's misbehavior. I think things are a bit different now...

well. when I was younger my neighbors had them. Shot out the windows of the barn with em. Shot birds with them, squirrels as well. They were smart enough to never hit my horses with them though. I would have taken the guns from them and stuffed them up their you know whats if they had.

I have no issues with guns.BB or other wise. As long as they are handled responsibly and with responsible guidance and supervision.
