kids and bb guns

we have been really clear about how it is to be used, and how its not to be used, and my husband has shown him how it works etc etc so it seems to be going ok so far..he has it already because our rabbit ate the wrapping paper off of it! i wouldnt have believed it if i wouldnt have busted him doing it myself of course.
my sons doesnt have an orange tip on it..its a daisy bb rifle? should it have one?? its the one with the scope.

Must be a CA state law..... All guns that don't use bullets have an orange tip so law enforcement knows it isn't a deadly weapon .

California has lots of odd gun rules... rules that criminals would break anyways....

They don't have orange tips here either. Just finger off the trigger, treat as loaded, and don't aim at anything you don't intend to shoot.

What's real fun is if you can cut up a bunch of tiny little wood blocks or get some tiny green army men. Line them up on a big block of wood, and shoot them off!

Is it a bb only gun or does it take pellets? If it takes pellets, you might have just armed your rat and mouse control unit!

I think it's probably okay as long as they are always supervised with it. It's amazing some of the trouble good kids can get into. They should also have to pick up any pellets/bbs from it. I personally wouldn't buy one for my boys, but I don't think my kids would care for one anyway. A gun is a gun. DH and I have lived through adulthood fine without one, and as I can't see either one of my sons ever hunting, they will not ever need to have a gun. But, every child is different. They are dangerous, there is no denying it, so supervision will be they key.

But, one cannot discuss bb guns without the obligatory "You'll shoot your eye out!"

Responsible gun owners are what protects our country. If a young person is taught respect for a gun and is shown proper gun use, they will do fine. Idiots begat Idiots. A friend of mine saw his ten year old shoot a neighbors dog. He took the BB gun from his son, broke it across a tree. Grounded the son and put him on kitchen duty. He had to help his Dad take the dog to the vet (Although there was no visible injury to the dog). He had to apologize to the neighbor who owned the dog, tell him what he did and also had to walk the dog into the vets office and explain to the vet why he was there to get the dog examined. I was raised with guns, my children were raised with guns and my grand-children are being raised with guns. Accidents with guns are either by carelessness or on purpose. Gun safety FIRST!

It all comes down to parenting - you're the parent, you know your kids. I gave my boys BB Guns, they learned how to properly use them and still have fun.

btw - when I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8 I shot my brother in the back with one

, then I ran like crazy and locked myself in the house (and him outside) until the parents got home. (he asked for it, trust me

Shot my older brother in the leg once with my bb gun. Man you should have seen him hopping all about and yelling. It was so funny!!!

He had on shorts too. Made his leg bleed. Good enough for him I thought.

The mean thing teaching me to be mean, he deserved it! Then my Dad beat my butt.....

He about beat my bottom off.

Better watch them boys cause little boys will be boys! They might need their butts beat. Hope they don't. But keep a close watch on them!

The people on here that comment on shooting another with a BB gun obviously had low power versions. Some of the current issue out there would do a lot more damage than what is stated.

Yes, they use to have a pump on them. You could pump it once for a weaker shot. Twice, three times...etc. They were not the same.
No Orange tips here either.
