Party lines :

I remember when your home phone line was connected with several other people each one had their own number

You would pick up the phone and hear others talking hang up wait a few minutes and try again

Most of the time no one was on the line and you could make your call

And sometimes another person on the party line got on before you

And you had to repeat the process
