Can older people join or do we get killed off real quick?
Wait...can other people kill my character off and then that means I have to leave the thread?
(I haven't read the rules yet)
Anyone is welcome to join! :) Whether or not your character dies is based on your actions. If you get yourself into a fatal situation, well...... From what's occurred so far there is usually a discussion about whether or not a character will be killed. You can always make another character. Just because your character dies doesn't mean you have to leave the thread.
You do have to make a complete character profile, though. This is found in the first post.
And, of course, nothing is certain. Your character is separate from you as a person so what you do is what you do. Responses will vary.

Quick question, would I be better off water candling my eggs, today is day 14 or 15? Or will this harm them in anyway. This candling thing has me going nuts, ( or nuttier than I usually am) All this talk of exploding eggs, etc. Wish the week would just go by and eggs would hatch. Made worse by Miss Badness sitting on eggs all night when I first put them under her and then being off the nest most of the next morning, before I let her brood where she wanted. :barnie :he
ETA: will this take the bloom off my eggs?
The wait is excruciating isn't it? The only time I ever water candle is as a final, final step before throwing away a late hatching egg.

Try to relax and let Mom do her thing. Candling is fun, but it's not terribly helpful. You can have great looking eggs all the way to the end that don't hatch. I've also had eggs that didn't look all that hot that did hatch. Even after my exploding egg situation, I only candle once at about day 7 -- just to remove any obvious clears. Otherwise I just made sure to give the eggs a good whiff, when the broody is off the nest doing her once a day run around thing.

We are so used to being in control of our chickens -- where they live, what they eat, etc. -- it seems almost crazy that they can manage this little miracle of life all on their own without our close supervision. But they really can!

I can't wait to see how it goes for you. Fingers are crossed that you get to see the absolute joy of awakening to find a little chick or two poking their heads out from momma's wing.

That's what I did last time, just let the hen take care of things until 2 or 3 days after the hatch date. But I didn't even think about exploding eggs and such. So now I am anxious.

I should add, my poor broody was sitting in 100 degree temps when that happened. I chalk it up to a freak accident.
