The other reason I haven’t been around much is that we had another SAD situation....a couple weeks ago after pool party, Tater’s eyes were irritated....she recovered a bit so we thought maybe it was the chemicals in the pool but when it happened worse this weekend we figured out that it was Sunburn/UV damage from her obsession with staying in the pool and outside in the sun constantly!!!! I haven’t gotten her VET appointment yet because not sure what exactly they can do beyond what we’ve been doing to treat her but she very likely has some degree of permanent damage/blindness at this point. We have “grounded” her from outside except to potty for now and have new GOGGLES ordered that she will be required to wear from now on in order to be outdoors and especially in the pool! We knew that there was risk of sunburning her skin but had never had a problem before now.....
I've been out a bit, too. I was dealing with a suicidal 17-year-old - not mine, but still really close. He's doing better, now, and will hopefully get some help, but Holy Cow, what a whirlwind the past two weeks have been. It's been an "I want my Mommy" scenario all around!
Oh - and here's my H picture - Herman the House Rooster. RIP my silly boy: Herman2.jpg

Oh wow!! I think I remember that now. Coney Island got completely destroyed, right? The rollercoaster was in the water like you said haha

It was Seaside Heights, NJ - and it was Awful! We couldn't get hold of our friends in Seaside Park for four days - and not knowing was agonizing. Once we knew they were safe, we used them as a conduit to get aid directly to the shelter where they were living. The family shared something we hadn't thought about - regardless of the weather and/or season, the first thing the rescue and emergency personnel run short of is ... Chapstick! My Girl Scouts (the two little girls had been part of our troop) sent all sorts of aid up - including three boxes of Chapstick & eye drops for the people working the field. Everything else went to the shelter, but the firefighters & emergency personnel distributed those two items to their teams practically before they could get the boxes off the truck. I wish we'd sent more!

Poor Taters.
Maybe it's just allergies.
I wish but 99% sure our diagnosis is correct....the picture I posted of her saying too much sun was unfortunately accurate....she’s been sleeping mostly since then and actually pottied in the kitchen Sunday night because she couldn’t see to go out the doggie door in the middle of the night

Can you "plant" a solar light in a flower pot, near the door? A cheapie one from the Dollar store works fine. It charges during the day, then lights up at night - giving her a guide to the door.

For those of you in Laura's path, or who get winter storm outages a lot, you can do the same thing. I keep a couple in my front garden all year. If the power goes out, I put one in a pot beside my front steps, so I don't break my neck coming and going. The others get placed in strategic locations around the house ... for the same reason! For everyday, I have one that "lives" on the kitchen windowsill ... the cheapest nightlight I've ever owned!
