In addition to the threat of drowning, flooding forces people out during the height of the storm and exposure gets them. If people get trapped inside during a flood, they can't always get out, safely. That's why an emergency kit should always have tools in it, including a hatchet/ax. Imagine being trapped in your attic with no way to break a hole in the ceiling as the water rises ...
You SURE you want to stay, @Kiki?
but at the same time don’t make @Kiki any more panicked than she already is.....let’s put this in perspective and 2020 has been the epitomy of OVERREACTION and way blowing things out of proportion (especially by the media!)

They can't force you.
Right. They can't force anyone to leave, but making it mandatory means that they can't guarantee a response if someone needs help, especially during the height of the storm.
If you weathered Ike, you at least have an idea of wht to expect. Still - I hope you don't mind lots of extra prayers and worry for you & yours on our parts!

yes but it’s the well past 24 hours that i tend to worry about....as @Kiki stated her power was out for like 2 weeks with ike and i know ours was out for at least a week. we didn’t have nearly as many freezers or as much in the freezers then!!

Yes, I can see that is the downside of having a hamster gene. I too am affected.

I'm sorry that came off as panic - it wasn't meant to. I was answering a question and should have thought more before posting that. Like I said earlier - you've been through Ike. That was intense enough to give you an idea of what you're dealing with. Just be careful, Gal. We're all pulling for you & Urseline & Sealer & everybody else dealing with this uninvited party-crasher. Next weekend, tell the 'Canes (Laura, Marco, Ike ... any of 'em) to stay da heck HOME!
