There are a distressingly large number of children, little & big, in this often indifferent world who are in desperate need of someone to ride to their rescue. 😢💕 Thanks, @electrycmonk
Don't I know it. We're dealing with that here. now, with DD's boyfriend. I just want to steal him away, but can't. He's not old enough and "The Authorities" won't "rescue" him until he actually makes an attempt. we have 6 more months, then we can "spring" him ... if we still can.

I thought rescues were for animals.
I don't know that the word is commonly applied to children in distress, but it seems apropos. We have a lot of kids around here raising themselves and also their younger siblings, cousins, etc. Someone needs rescuing.

Ideally one would "rescue" the parents (help them get their lives together) and, in so doing, the children with them. That's not always doable, though. In many cases there's not a lot that can be done at all, but when something *can* be done, it's wonderful to have people competent and willing to do it. So much heartbreak in this world.

Been There ... Done That ... I spent my 18th BD at West Point, as the guest of my Best Friend's brother. I spent my 21'st at the Naval Academy with another friend and her fiance. I've spent time in both sides of the stands at Army/Navy games ... and both were pretty cool! I actually came very close to marrying a Middie, but the Marines' and the Seals' had to have him, first. He was never the same again. PTSD really did a number on him. He's so "lost" that it's hard for him to carry on a conversation. It's so sad!
Still, I live near a big Army base & volunteer with the HS Marching Band at out local VFW, so who knows? I'd date military again in a heartbeat. They're good, solid people ... well, except for my Seal buddy - but there were extenuating circumstances, there.
Obviously you saw my point!:thumbsup

That's why I volunteer at the "rescue" mission locally!:old

It's funny, but every active military person I've ever met has been a complete jerk. Retired and ex military people have been solid, reliable, great people, but I have yet to meet an active military member that I've gotten along with.

West Point... They sent me a letter trying to recruit me in my junior year of high school... I don't think I would have been a good fit.

I got a letter from them, too, and some e-mails... my parents found it amusing, considering that I'm rather laid-back and mellow.
Well, relatively mellow. You get what I mean.
I'm not cut out for military school at all.

I was a quiet little bookworm. I'm sure the only reason I got the letter was because I got the highest score on the PSATs in my school.

I hope no one felt I was insulting military people in my prior post. Many of my students are ex military, and they are the most reliable and hard working students I get. I love teaming them up with the privileges youngsters.
