Kiki's Quail Cage Build

Pics
My problem is there is not wood to hammer into.
Think just a metal cage by itself...I want to wrap each cage separately.

Because the slots are too big??
Maybe cut pieces of hw cloth to fit inside, and ziptie in to place. Wire ties might be better than plastic ties.

I want to wrap the cages in hardware cloth.
I'm having trouble thinking of how to do it.
If I cut the pieces of hardware cloth to fit each side of the cage...do I zip tie the pieces to the cage?

Is there a better way to do it?

Why do you want to put HW cloth on? I don't think quail could get through what's there. What is the floor made of? It needs to be 1/2" HW cloth.

I don't want mice or rats to show up and be able to eat my quailies.

If it were me, I would get rid of all the wood and use wire to hang under a shed. Not sure if you can do that but would solve having to wrap with HW cloth.

If you get rid of the feeders you will have to patch where they are. If you could hang you could just leave the feeders for future.

I don't know how well quail will do on the floor. If you put HW cloth over it I'm afraid it may be hard to keep clean. You can get a bag of j-clips and the pliers to crimp them and replace the entire floor with 1/2" HW.

You are talking about rebuilding the cages by lining with hardware cloth. IMHO easier to start with a fresh batch.

Thinking out loud, your existing cages could be for little ones and use these for larger birds. Are rats and mice common there? We've had mice once and I killed one rat. More issues with snakes. I prefer snakes running around.

To use these for adults, just line the bottom. Weave wire, ziptie or J clips. Your choice.

The wooden ladder thing, that was the back wall to the top cage? Home built or what is it? Interesting.

Looks like you have 2 oven racks, some closet shelving and a refrigerator shelf. Innovative repurposing.

Based on what you have and what you want, it sounds like this haul was a miss. Moral: rabbit cages don't work for quail. Take it apart and use pieces?

Could you use the wooden frame for a cage build?

No I do not have rats or mice but...what if they show up.
I'm scared of them. Scared is an understatement. I'm worried that they could show up one day and then they would eat my quails.

I am pretty sure I will sleep better if I can wrap the damn cages.

Right now I only have dogs and the one visit from the nasty hawk.

yes..fridge parts, oven rack and shelving. You are good Nutty.

The ladder thing was just on the trailer. Mex brought it thinking I might like it. It wasn't attached to anything. There was a piece if that metal stuff as the back wall to the upper cage area thing.

I'm making these rabbit cages turn into quail cages...I'll figure it out.
