DS just went through this. I ordered new ones for both himself and his sister. I asked him if he wanted to put them in my filing cabinet in the "Important Papers" file. His response ... "No offense, Mom, but you lose things." In a filing cabinet? Really? So he put them away in a "Safe Place" himself.
Then DD needed hers for work ... and DS discovered that his "Safe Place" was safest from ... himself! He couldn't remember where he put them! We tore the house apart looking for them. I asked him if he could have left them at his Dad's, by accident, to which he replied, "Absolutely not!"
He was right. He didn't leave them at his Dad's "by accident." He left them there deliberately, for "safekeeping!. And of course, he discovered this while telling his father that he finally got the new ones in - on his own dime, this time.
Some lessons definitely come harder - and more expensively - than others!
