Killer Dogs in Hays County, Texas. Please Help.

It is sad, but some dogs just have it in them. We have had sheep and goats attcked by dogs. The excuse that it is just a "chicken" is rediculous. What is to say that the dogs that are doing this won't just keep to the livestock? What if they decide to attack a small child? Livestock are expensive. They take a lot of time and money. People need to take responsibility for their dogs.

I have always wondered how these same people would feel if a band of roving chickens attacked and killed their dog?

I think if they starting giving out large fines to the owners of the dogs then maybe they would be more responsible pet owners I cant stand people who don't take care of their pets! I personally think if you are not a responsible pet owner they should take your rights to own a pet
and then if you are caught having a pet you should be jailed. Just my thoughts

Since Hays County is just south of me I listened to/read several news reports (and I use the term 'reports' loosely) and, of course had trouble finding an unbiased account. As expected, most focused on the dog owner and his children, their pet, broken hearted, blah,blah,blah, blah, blah, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. Some print media did report just the facts, but none took the side of the chicken owner. So much for balanced reporting.

The next thing that attracted my attention was the statement by the Sheriff's office that "a state law that mandated the dog to be euthanized." Since I knew of no Texas state law that required this I did a bit more research and found that while Hays County law starts out as pretty much boiler plate from the state law it goes even further:

The pertinent section is 10, subsection (d) on page 13 in the above pdf document. If you don't want to open and read it yourself to summarize; it requires the owner to put the dog down. If he/she (Wow, I'm getting way to PC) fails to do so just about any official may come onto the property and destroy the animal.​
