Killer Rooster-HELP!

Oh for gods sakes people.....

I have two really nasty Roos one is a black australope (who I babied) and the other is a white orp that I also took extra care of. I can't go into their separate coops without a large fishing net. They will and have attacked me. Casper my white orp runs to the roost when I enter the coop just waiting to attack me from his perch. I yell at him and walk into the coop with the net. He knows he better gewt outside while I feed and change the waterer. Its sometimes heart braking when one of your favorites turns mean. I am the only one who comes and goes into the coop and you would think they would know that. Cull them I don't know maybe someday but for right now I will put up with them If they freeranged I don't think I would take the chance. DH thinks its funny when I go inside and yell for Casper to get his butt outside but then he has never been spurred by him.

My friends had a problem with a roo like that... They called me up so I taught them how to cull it. Mmmmm.... he made goos soup

I have a roo who attacks without warning also... I have a video of him chasing me... He'll probably be dinner soon...

Dinner Time - I have one thats turned agressive , he even attacks the fence if you go near it. We kept him because he would protect the hens but he cornered me outside the fence the other day. He will be dinner soon because I have a toddler and I'm scared for her safety now.

If you can't eat him ,find a family who can. We sent our nasty roo to a hungry family in the next town. He was so mean my kids even said they would have eaten him. I just couldn't, it was one of our first birds. I've gotten a little more farm minded over the years and would gladly serve one of our own birds at a family dinner now.

Oh for sure, if he scares you that bad, I would for sure bash him one. BUT, if you can tolerate him enough to try to establish with him that you're head of the pecking order, then I would try that first.

Folks in here tried to tame them and not all of them worked. As for temperment, i think it does makes a difference and some breeds are more prone to bad or good temperments. Protecting the girls is one but having them attacking my 4 year old daughter, no way...stew pot or given a good home is the only thing I can do. I even cull nasty downright nic pic chicks that goes for nothing but blood including my Welsummers.

That web site mentioned on pg 1 really does help..... a little bit. I hung my Satanic Roo upside down until I thought for sure his head would pop off. Then I carried him around under my arm too. It definitely helped. However, we still got rid of him.

One thing I used to do that was instinct for me but made the Roo's behavior worse was - I wacked at him with the feed shovels or feel can lids or whatever I had in my hand when he sidled up for a fight. Fighting him only made it worse.

Put gloves on and go out and follow the directions on that earlier site listed - maybe it will work better than it did with mine.

ps!!!! My evil roo was OVER loved by a well meaning family. In my opinion this made his behavior even more threatening when he became 'evil' - from being handled so much as a youngster, he was mean AND unafraid of us!

See, that's the difference. When there is young children involved, I wouldn't take the chance. But if not, take that rooster and hold him up-side-down. It's sick sounding, but it's kind of like good payback.
