Chicken snakes are not one particular species or type of snake. Instead, chicken snake is a term applied to several different kinds of reptiles that are nonpoisonous and tend to feast on eggs, rats, and small birds. Along with referring to this group of snakes as chicken snakes, there are several other common names applied to the group, including rat snakes, corn snakes, and pine snakes.

It looks like a Rat Snake, AKA, Chicken Snake. Thank goodness they are not a problem here.

Sorry about your loss, coop looks well built too.

smaller mesh wire from top to bottom, just put the new smaller mesh wire over the exsisting wire and hold in place with either zip ties or J clips. which wever you can buy cheaper.
will help deter the snakes and anything else with paws small enough to stick through larger mesh.

ole timer told me to use moth balls to keep snakes away,, worked for me, also if ya smell cucumber when ya know there shouldn't be any around it just might be a copper head lurking, so be carefull, but keep your birds away from the moth balls !!
