after looking at my past post......

Nothing wrong with people who are horse lovers, or love their pets..Myself i couldn't I eat horse meat, of dog or cat. But would not try to stop those that do.

Never would i approve of any animal being abused.....I'm a meat eater. Do think all those people that think killing animal for meat ,need to look at other thing in their life, were animals are killed.

Horse slaughter=necessary evil. I'm not going to knock people for eating what I won't. I just think of those people as more survivors then I will ever be. I will eat about anything but stop it at horses. Cheers to those who do.

European coutnries have been importing horse meat from this country for years.

You know, I am up and down on this, countrywide this is a mild winter, but, last winter many horses froze to death.

I do not know, I try not to let it bother me.

That was a good article, I enjoyed reading it. It offered knowledgeable facts rather than emotion.

2x

It makes me want to TRY horsemeat myself but can't find a place here that would serve them or give out samples for those who wants to try them.

Believe it or not, Americans HAVE been eating horses. Grandpa had eaten horses during WWII and said they are delicious. AND they didn't taste like corn fed animal either.

I am not sure when the tide changed since people decided it is awful to eat horses. Probably when horse stories came into the picture, pulling at heart strings and so forth.

Chevion, anyone? (grabbing chair, tablecloth on lap, knife and fork in either hand....I'm ready!)

Why??? Horse meat is delicious. I ate in Japan, not knowing at the time what it was, but it was very good.

I believe that alot of people think of horses as pets but cows as food.

The one thing that bothers me the most, I guess that there are 2 items, is the way the horse is killed with a bolt to the head, sometimes it takes many shots with this metal bolt before the animal is stunned, the horse is still alive when it's throat is slit.

Also so many of the racing horses are being sent to slaughter and the main problem with this is that they have had so many drugs put into their systems, shots against dieases, steriods etc. the meat industry does not know yet what affect this (the meds) will have on the human body. Some reachers say that some of the drugs cause cancer in humans.

I personally dont like slaughtering horses, but that is my personal feelings, I have also seen a few videos on slaughtering of other animals and dont care for that either.

But to each their own, I'm not going to tell someone that they are a bad person because of their beliefs, just like I dont want them to tell me I'm bad because of mine.

Well said! To many back yard breeders, bad economy and premarin babies = too many horses. The reason the slaughter of horses became such an issue was the horrid conditions that the horses were being transported in. Put in a trailer that did not allow them to get their heads high enough to help with their balance, packed too tightly causing stress and making them attack each other. The weaker horses being attacked had no way to get away from their attackesr. Being hauled in a double decker stock trailer that was designed for COWS. No food or water for days, no way to escape the elements, freezing wind ,extremely high temps. A lot of horses were either dead or dying by the time they arrived at the stock yards. I am all for a more humane way to process them. Imagine what it would be like if you had to keep and care for every rooster that you hatched because it was illegal to slaughter them? We would be over run with roosters, with many being turned out to fend for themselves. Which is crueler a long slow death or a humane death that at least has a purpose?
