Kinda freakin out here, anyone ever had a false positive preg test?

Quote:
Actually, all men test positive. It's because they have a high level of LH, a hormone which is very similar in structure to hCG (which is the pregnancy hormone).

I'm sorry (or happy!) to say that you are almost certainly pregnant. The dollar store tests work just the same as the expensive grocery store tests - maybe a little LESS sensitive though (so more likely to get a false negative). Don't worry at all about getting pregnant right after stopping birth control. Truthfully, a lot of fertility doctors will put women on birth control pills to HELP them get pregnant. The BC regulates their cycle, and they're more likely to get pregnant when they first go off of it.

Don't worry about your drinking or anything else either - lots of people do that the first few weeks of pregnancy. If it was going to do any harm, it would cause an early miscarriage - NOT birth defects. At this point, formation of the organ systems hasn't really started yet, so there's nothing to be worried about.

So let me be one of the first to say - CONGRATULATIONS

It sounds like you were planning on getting pregnant in a few months, so don't worry about it happening early! Just enjoy it! Good luck!

olive, my ob wanted me to wait a few months to build up the lining, but did tell me I could right away.
I think her advice on the fertility may have been bad though!
Wierd, I wanted to get pregnant in August...spend the cold winter months warming by the fire and be due before it got to be real hot. I do not want to be pregnant when it's 90 outside! I saw my friend suffer in the 90 degree heat while pregnant..that looked terrible! Perhaps it's some sort of fate.

Hope my husband really likes his new job, lol. So now I have to tell him when he gets home! (darn, I really wanted that beer...wish DH drank it all last night!) He is gonna be estatic! I would hate to get his hopes up though and turn out to be wrong.

have been taking the vitamins, but pretty irregularly..I suck at remembering to take meds!

edit.... is it wrong that BYC knows before my dh? k..gonna go get vitamin right now!

My ob/gyn said there are rarely false positives on the newer tests.

Wait a few days and test again. In the meantime, act like you are pregnant. No parties.

One of the downsides of the very accurate home pregnancy tests is they show positive for "pregnancies" that would have been passed off as a late period even 20 years ago. Not to scare you, or weird anyone out, especially those trying to get pregnant, but the very early pregnancy tests show positive for non-viable fertilizations, that a generation ago would not even have been detected.

Yep.

Most HPTs are very sensitive, including the store-brand ones. They are designed to react to 15-50 mIU/mL of hCG in urine.

If you are interested in an accurate way of TTA, then I highly recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. I think every woman should read it.

BTW, poppy seeds will make you test positive for narcotics, not pregnancy.

If you don't tell him we knew first he'll never know.

But I *do* recommend you tell him about this early positive. Even if something were to happen you'll want and need the support and camaraderie. He's in this with you from moment one, and he'll relish in it no matter how it goes.

My first preg. was easy, very, VERY easy. My second one was difficult, lots of Dr. appts, bed rest, expectations of a deformed and perhaps stillborn child (she's fine, btw) but my husband was engaged equally in both and never resented the harder one for what it was.

We saw a friend who we'd not seen in a long time the other day, he immediately lit up -- like a christmas tree -- and asked us "Have you seen my wife?" while holding his hands out like he was rubbing a round belly in front if his own. Men are proud of their pregnant wives. Though they can't carry themselves, they're very proud of and like to be involved in the pregnancy. Let him help you through this time. It's hard to swallow at first -- you're going to be a MOM! how overwhelming and amazing all at once! -- but he'll help you with that.

Congrats again. Kids are challenging and amazing and awe-inspiring and .... you'll come up with all sorts of descriptions. My youngest just started kindergarten. It goes by fast. Thanks for letting us live your pregnancy/no pregnancy excitement.

I have gotten a positive and then it dissappears after a couple hours. And I was very much pregnant with my 2nd daughter, 4th child!! I was thrilled!! I have had tons of different experiences while being pregnant, and so forth. Each one has been totally unique. However, I was in total shock when I was pregnant with number 3, only because OB told me no way was I going to have kids, with my case of PolyCysticOvarianSyndrome. The nurse had to look in my chart and tell him, that yes, I really had two live births. He totally would not take my word for it. So, he ended it with me being content that Iwouldn't be able to have any more children, as my ovaries were covered with Cysts... well, within two months I was dying from chronic heartburn and knew right away that I was VERY much pregnant. I also have taken BC and quit when wanting to get pregnant with Daughter number 1, child number 2 and got pregnant right away, my doctor said it would be fine. Congratulations!! As far as spreading it on the interenet, that's one thing, just don't tell your friends before you tell your husband. I had a friend who was expecting and told a friend, who ran into her husband, and congratulated him, and he hadn't known that his wife was expecting. It put my friend, (that wasn't expecting) in an awkward position. Have fun getting ready for that little bundle of joy!!

If you get a positive result, egg has implanted and you are pregnant. There is no sort of pregnant. It is either yes or no. YES there are implantations that a so full of genetic problems the pregnancy is not viable so no growth and the uterus is flushed. You cannot get a positive result for pregnancy if the egg has not implanted into the uterine lining.

OP, find a new OB.

I work in (manage) a fertility clinic. There are rarely false positives. But not all positives mature into a full-term pregnancy.

Calculating the days that you are "fertile" is a very tricky way to not get pregnant - and it's not very successful

It is true that you can get pregnant right away after coming off bcp's - you can get pregnant even if you miss a couple of doses during critical points of the pills!

You are going to be fine - and you'll be a GREAT mom (whether now or later)!

What color dye did the test have? The blue ones gave lots of false positives conpared to the red ones. One of the best tests you can get are the first response early response.

If you are not pregnant and are interested I. Learning fertility awareness ( charting to avoid or conceive) you need to read Taking charge of your fertility. It is as effective as the pill when you follow the rules. There is also a monitor made by clear blue easy that has good results.

If you are pregnant congrats! It took me over a year to conceive this little one due in December.

Congratulations! Unless you are misreading an evaporation line as a positive, you are pregnant. if it's a dark line like the control line, you definitely are. The $1 tests are just as accurate as the urine tests docs carry in their offices these days. My oldest was conceived before my next shot of depo provera was even due, and he was perfectly fine,.

Oh, and I agree w/ finding a new OB. "calculating" fertile days by when you have your period sounds like advice from the 50s!

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't planning on becoming pregnant, just not being "careful" and my daughter was born with some serious problems that may have been related to folic acid deficiency.

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
