I have been reading this site for nearly three years when I found a newly hatched orphan on my property. All the other eggs were broken with contents missing, and no hen in sight. The neighbor had chickens - lots of them - and they had been spilling across the pasture between us. I didn't mind because I appreciated the help with the grasshoppers. I brought the baby in and she grew up with me as her mom. Soon more chickens were arriving and since then I have always had around thirteen or so. They are Old English Game and very self sufficient - spend the night in a tree. I have put a few nest boxes around and they use them sometimes, but love to find goofy places to lay. I throw out scratch grain in the morning, keep fresh water out, and hunt eggs. They have been a constant source of entertainment/aggravation/fascination. We live a bit east of Dallas.

Hi and :welcome

I agree with 4H chicken mom, that sounds awesome! I bet it would be entertaining having them around. :D

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site.
