I have a about 4 month old kitten and he’s very frisky And playful. He’s a rough player too with silkie bantam but he gets put in his place by Bob Ross. Anyway I got 6 new chicks yesterday and he had already gotten in there but hasnt made any moves. I show him them over the side of the bin while holding him so he can’t jump in. Is that like encouraging him and is there anyway to keep him from doing that? I have been locking him outside that room but he scratches at the door all night long. Thanks!

I don't see the benefit of showing him the chicks when they're this small. Personally, I would wait until they were several weeks old. You may find he's still interested in them but not so anxious to get at them due to their bigger size.

I don't understand the purpose of your having your kitten around your new baby chicks because they'll instinctively kill baby birds and chicks. A 4 1/2 month old cat is perfectly capable of grabbing a baby chick and killing it. Grown cats do kill Bantams too.
Agreed. My cat would kill any baby chick. He would not kill a bantam but I'm not going to take any risks

My cat in the avatar is deathly afraid of chickens, every time I let them out, my cats (other one was also deathly afraid) darts away of his dear life to get away of my Sebright rooster! LOL
I do miss those days. They are a memory since I no longer have both.

One bite in the neck by a cat can paralyze a Bantam ( 2-3 lbs ) They instinctively go for the spinal cord to kill their prey. Baby chicks wouldn't stand a chance. This kitten will kill those chicks if it gets a chance now that shes shown them where they are.

Have a kitten chasing my chickens daily now. They are in a half acre open coop set up. Chickens are starting to peck at him but he persists. In the past I held a rooster and when the cat went for it the cat got pecked and that was the end of that. But this kitten thinks it a game.

I allow all my cats to see the chicks through the bin as much as they want. I also correct them if they hit the bin bite it etc.(I use a deep tone NO then move them) I never hit them or yell. then one cat at a time they get to meet the chick duck etc (after they have been watching them for awhile. I also have a new kitten right now he is very frisky as well but he is doing great. So yes it can be done❤️
