I like my heat lamp. I'm in control, and I only use it for a couple of weeks. No poopy pad for me. :)

Very true!! It is definitely easier but for me since I raise such small numbers, it works great. Well, plus I read about it right before I got my first batch of chicks and after I had bought a heat lamp but decided that sounded more natural and went with it lol plus mine were spoiled and inside for 3 weeks :oops: :lau heat lamp is a lot easier and simpler and the poopy pad I think is the grossest part of MHP but now that I’ve tried MHP, I don’t think I would go back. They are just so quiet with it. But I do think if I ever get meat birds then I will use a heat lamp for that just because it is way easier. So I can see where for some applications, maybe even most, the lamp is definitely better and simpler. And I think for real farms, Broodies accomplish the same thing for cheaper and simpler. :D but I don’t have any broodies atm. Maybe I will get some before my April chicks get here. :fl Although for the poopy part, you can also use a towel or waterproof cover over it or so I’ve heard. I am hoping I get a broody though lol when I hatch my quail, I am not sure what I will use. I think I read for quail you can’t use MHP??? But idk.

I brood my chicks out in a shed so noise isn't an issue for me. Plus I can look outside, especially at night and see that glow from the light, so I know they are okay.

I definitely prefer a heat lamp, and have my system down. Now it's just fitting this kitty in. I don't have the heart to kick her out of that shed. She loves the sunny window.

Chicks will probably get a floor brooder that goes to the ceiling so kitty can't sit on top of anything. The other option is to brood them right out in my shed. Or maybe I will have a big fat Cochin broody by than?

I have a 9 year old female Somali, her name is Farty McSmellybottom (this name slowly naturally created itself after experiencing her more).

I liked this picture (and it was so hard to keep her still) but it had my ex's his head on it that I don't like so much anymore so I replaced that with another head of Farty.

She has a plastic fetish. She also hoards plastic in the attic. I'm amazed that she made 9 yo since she often does stuff like this with plastic;
There is a perfectly fine bed-sheets to the left, but no, IN plastic is a waaaay nicer place to sleep.

It is the first time owning a Somali and I am sold. Next ones are all going to eastern races like Somali, abbesyn, balinese, etc. They are so smart and active and affectionous! A bit like dogs. :)
