Go check out breed-specific rescues! Not as expensive as a new purebred kitten to adopt an older cat, and since they're older you'll get a better idea of their personalities before you take them home! :} Persians and Siamese are probably the most common ones I see go through rescues but if the breed exists, there's a rescue organization for it.
Yes, unfortunately they do cost a pretty pennyUh oh... there’s a Ragdoll breeder near me apparently.![]()
But I can’t really justify spending that much on a cat right now so thankfully I think I’m safe LOL
I do want one eventually though and/or a Maine Coon and/or a Norwegian Forest Cat and/or a Turkish Angora or pure Himalayan or a Siberian because they’re all just such awesome cats and I think the Siberians are supposed to be hypoallergenic despite the long fur, they don’t have some protein or dander or something, and I would love one. But there’s also so many awesome cats I could get for free or really cheap and I used to think a lot of cats were similar so idk. Now I know a lot of these breeds do have unique, awesome personalities, but still, Luna and our last cat are/were awesome too aha
I would loveeeee one though one day.
I also really want a Bengal cat but they’re a lot of work lol but they’re awesome and I could teach it tricks.
That’s part of my thing with paying that much for a cat too: I really want a dog next and dogs are much more interactive. I can teach them tricks, do dog sports/competitions with them, go hiking with them, take them places like to stores/out or trips and stuff, bike or skijor, etc. so I almost feel like the cost for a dog is more worth it at least for now.
Not that cats aren’t worth it. Cats are AWESOME, hence this kitty thread, and I think they say the Ragdolls act like dogs??, which is awesome. But still. Don’t know that I could take one hiking or to stores?
I would love to pay for a quality kitty one day though. Maybe when I get my own place.![]()
Yes, unfortunately they do cost a pretty penny... but you can buy one that is a few months old for cheaper.. I got Pippin at 10 weeks on Craigslist so I got a fair price... he is the first cat that I’ve paid for.. every other cat we’ve had were rescues... but by far he is the absolute best one we’ve had! I loved all my others and Bobby is a close second but.... I am smitten with that kitten
... And he does play fetch.. with pony tail ties.. and follows me around.. but he would not like going on outings
.... but I get what you’re saying about dogs... when I walk I bring the dogs and we take them to the Mardi Paws parade (all dogs parade) (we have a parade for everything here
) so there are more of those things you can do for sure... but I still like cats better

I am the opposite.. I like the quiet and calm of cats.. the *ever in motion* dogs drive me coo coo... we went to our camp last week and when we get there I always clean first thing and the dogs were running around and wrestling and being wildYeah if I ever do get one I will have to shop around for sure!! And wow that is awesome!! He sounds like a great cat!! And aw your dogs sound awesome too!! I love cats, they’re amazing, but I also loveeee training so I love dogs for that reason haha plus they’re always so happy and excited and wiggly to see you. Luna gets excited too and runs up and climbs all over me and purrs and stuff but dogs just get so cute and wiggly LOL usually Luna’s happy for a few minutes but then she’s demanding foodshe likes to warm up and act all lovey before demanding the food so you cave
That said, I have taught Luna a few tricks.
Taught our old cat one too but not as many lol
I am the opposite.. I like the quiet and calm of cats.. the *ever in motion* dogs drive me coo coo... we went to our camp last week and when we get there I always clean first thing and the dogs were running around and wrestling and being wild.. all while I’m trying to vacuum and whatnot!! It just so reminded me of when my boys were young (I’ve got three and two girls).... dogs are so much like boys.. wild and loud... and cats are like girls.. quiet and sweet

You are totally fine.. didn’t come across wrong at all.. and yes, hunting dogs.. well, standard poodle doesn’t hunt but originally were hunters so yes, pretty energetic! And the Boykin.. fa-git abooouut it!! Non stop!! I hate it cuz you can never kiss him! He doesn’t sit still for a second! And I just have to kiss what is cute... I can’t help myself! I have even resorted to kissing the cutest of my chickens! Those which like to be huggedthat’s true!! Dogs are definitely a little coo coo!
But I also like training so I like teaching a settle command or similar and forcing them to stay still.or at least giving them a bone/toy to chew or something lol
Helps a lot
Or if all else fails.. crates
Or bone in crate LOL
But of course the command or chew toys or crate only work if they’ve had enough exercisekinda mean to make them lie still if they haven’t... kinda like an ADD child

Btw I am speaking in general with that last bit about the exercise, wasn’t saying yours weren’t, I was saying I myself only make them lie still for long periods if I’ve exercised them lol, just wanted to clarify cause I realized that could possibly come across wrong.
Anyway, idk, I kinda like chaos cause I can channel it.
Well, not full chaos lol but energetic, driven dogs.
Although even full chaos I could probably channel given long enough
But usually the crazy ones are also super smart and like learning lol
Perfect if you like teaching tricks or running agility courses with them.
All of that said.... the sporting breeds (which I think you have?) are wild child type dogs, perpetual puppies till at least 3 or even 5, chaos, and most DEFINITELY boys!!! Like being muddy, smelly, dirty constantly. Like running around being wild children. Like wrestling and bickering. Yup, definitely boys![]()
So I actually kind of agree lol
I do like that cats are so chill and mellow and will just lay with you and relax/be calm/purr. It is nice and definitely soothing that they’re not always wanting to be doing something lol
But then again dogs can be like that too once they’ve had enough exercise haha or even sometimes not, some dogs are just rugs with a heartbeat LMAOOO
But even those still need to be let out to potty and/or walked at the very least and trained. And the wild ones need way more.
Cats you don’t have to walk or train or really do anything with which is definitely nice!!
But litter boxes SUCK!!! LOL
But cats are so sweet and relaxing.
But I also know some crazy, wild, energetic, and/or mean kitties too, and some dogs who just want to sleep all day and/or have to be dragged out of bed in the morning so it all depends on the individual too hahaha
But I also like taking that crazy, wild child dog and turning them into an obedient, calm, quiet, well behaved dog.
They may never like being calm and of course still need the exercise and poop ton of work to stay that way, but at least they’ll do as told
But btw, for the record, I still have never fully achieved this
Gator came close but he was easy. He was one that wanted to sleep all day lol
But I did teach him lots of tricks and cool stuff.
Hoping with my next dog, starting as a puppy, I will achieve this.
But I do like cats... no work.
But I’m a bit crazy and like the work involved with dogsit’s not work to me though. I actually find this stuff fun.
