Thanks yall! We have never had one in all the years of kitties.. so we finally got one ...

@oldhenlikesdogs.. I plan on getting more parakeets.. if I get boys will they just try to mate the girls constantly..? The four we have are girls..

No. I don't generally see a lot of mating, mostly courting. The males pair up with a female and they will feed and preen them. It's all a respectful relationship, and nothing like chickens. I personally prefer the boys, they are more active, and less destructive. I currently have 2 pairs that share a big cage.

It doesn't really matter. The boys will pair up with who they like.
