Knee Replacement? Please share your experiences.

Eventually I will need to replace the other knee, the new knee is a bit taller than the old knee, I might start going circles because of it.

I do veer slightly to the right while walking the driveway and have to correct myself or I end up in the field.

Well I've decided to have my other knee replaced this year. My surgery date is set for October 12 subject to my health on that date. I'm glad I made this thread as I could look back at my journey and progress and I know what to expect because of it. My memory is skewed a bit on it all. In my head my initial recovery was 3 months long, not about 3-4 weeks, so this thread is helpful in me knowing my timeline this time around.

I see some of my supporters are no longer with us. They either haven't been on this site or they have sadly passed away. For anyone who wishes to follow me again I will updates as stuff happens.

I definitely want to thank everyone who gave me courage and comfort last time. I probably didn't thank you all enough at the time. I was so grateful for everyone's kind words, and great advice though I may not have expressed it at the time.

I am still a bit scared and apprehensive. Who the heck wouldn't be. It's a big surgery and decision. Good news is I don't need to go through their class again, and this time I can take aspirin afterwards as a blood thinner. Those shots in the stomach daily for 3 weeks were already scaring me again, so I'm so very happy not to do that.

Hopefully this time will be easier. I guess after this replacement my thread will be for others who also may be contemplating knee replacement, or are going to have it, because after this one I'm out of knees that need fixing. :)

I've recently been told I need both knees replaced, I haven't set a date yet, but I am pondering it. It was a surprise to me, but it does explain a lot of my pains and troubles. I guess I'm looking to alleviate some of my worries, and to know what to expect afterwards. I have had both shoulders replaced so I'm familiar with some aspects like pain and how long before your limb feels like it belongs to you again. So if you would share, but try not to terrify me, I would be so thankful.
Hello Oldhen,
I had a total knee replacement October of 2016. It hurts like hell! If you have stairs in your home, you better get in shape! I had a therapist come everyday for the first week. They really test your patience. She had me climbing the stairs the second day I was home! That's the hardest part. They also brought a machine for me to exercise my knee. That was great. You don't have to do anything, just sit/lay there, it does all the work for you. It doesn't seem like it's helping, but it really does. You'll need someone with you for the first two or three days. Don't resist on using a walker and bedside toilet. You will need them both. Have them there when you get home. I didn't.
I was recently told that I need my left one done. I will wait until winter, I have a garden and my chickens to tend to all summer. By then I will have automatic coop doors on my coops. The husband will feed and water for me. Stay in the hospital as long as they will let you! Good luck. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. It is well worth it. I no longer have pain in that knee.
