Knee Replacement? Please share your experiences.

I can't speak from personal experience but my mom had both of hers replaced about a year apart. The docs were amazed as she powered through the pain to do her exercises. They told her that's why it was such a success. It's just like sourland said. Good luck to you!

Thank you. I will definitely do my exercises.

Another thing I would probably ask your doctor (or the surgeon doing the surgery) is what kind of pain medications you can expect after surgery and throughout the rehab process it's not a question I would have asked in the past, but now being in the medical field I see often how human doctors can be a bit stingy with pain relief.

I've heard the same as others though. Rehab is definitely tough and the recovery can be painful, but it always seems like it was worth it in the end.

Thank you, since I've gone through shoulder replacement I do have some understanding of the pain, the difference is of course the knee is a weight bearing joint, so I imagine there's a whole nother aspect to it.

In the past I have been under medicated and toughed it out because I was afraid to speak up, but now I will. I do take my rehab seriously. I am feisty and determined.

My friend who had the knee replacement surgery yesterday just called me on the way home from the hospital. Talked to him earlier and he had just gotten back from rehab. He says it hurts pretty bad but not as bad as he had expected. Rehab had him break out in a cold sweat, but he says he can handle it. Everything is pretty positive on his part.

That's a quick release, I'm reading 3-5 days in the hospital. That would be very nice. Glad he's doing well.

My sister was 5 days - he is on medicare and I am not certain what he has in the way of supplemental insurance - that may be a factor.

He's going to be doing rehab on an out patient basis. He was not certain how long that would go on. He expects to find out more tomorrow.

That's sounds about right. I have decent insurance so they are always trying other squeeze more out of me. There are some upsides to being underinsured. I hate being in the hospital.

My friend who had knee replacement surgery this week is doing great. He has far less swelling and bruising than my sister did. He hasn't taken a prescription pain pill since 11 AM yesterday - just two Aleve prior to bedtime last night and nothing today. He is getting around pretty good with a walker and is happy with the procedure so far. Hope that your surgery and recovery go as smoothly.
