Ko Shamo Thread!

I have noticed that most of the birds on the west coast are of the tall upright strain and most of the the birds I have seen on the east coast are the shorter thicker body strain Ko Shamo. I have acquired one of the upright strain cockerels and two of the shorter strain cockerels and a shorter strain pullet. I had the upright cockerel in with the shorter strain pullet and that was the pair I was having problems breeding from. I now have the pullet in with one of the shorter male cockerels that is real small like a Chibi type. I am going to try and breed for that type from them.
Skitter those are some nice blue Ko Shamo.

Also got 2 pure ko to hatch finally but looks like one has messed up feet so will prolly cull that one

When you cull, do you eat these birds? If so, how is the meat? Sorry to sound so stupid, but I met a lady who raises them, and noticed that they are really heavy and full breasted, so I was just wondering about the meat.

they do seem fairly heavy for how small they are nice big chest on them aswell. i havent eaten any, most all the bantams i dont want go towards dog food. all the mixed ones feet are good. just the 2 pure ko shamos that hatched lastnight have pretty messed up lookin feet . ill post a pic If u want. one in just a middle toe is curled one way pretty hard on one foot. and the other im not sure If it will even be able to walk so will just let the neighbors barn cats have a snack. their pretty bad. only one of my 2roos has a slight crooked toe so not sure whats goin on. gonna have to get some new ko shamo to breed from i think atleast some new hens and gonna cull that rooster

The reason I was asking was because this lady offered to give me some fertilized eggs to hatch so that I could raise them to possibly cross with my Marans to get a bigger breasted meat bird. The dark Cornish is often used for that purpose. I caponize my roosters and raise for meat, then grow them out.

The birds she has are thicker bodied bodied and are white. They aren't bantams, though.

I guess I am just wondering about taking her up on her offer. She has 3 other breeding pairs along with a Thailand breeding pair, but she thought her white ones would be better for a meat cross.

These birds are pretty territorial, correct?
