La Fleche Thread ~ PIC of my Black La Fleche

Hi Rare Feathers Farm

The two males I have are very good to each other right now but they are only 3 months old. Their attitudes my change as they get older. They are one of the best breeds I have ever had for foraging on range and they are a rather wild breed not tame at all.

What is meant by not very nice? That covers a lot of ground LOL. They are great range chickens as has been noted. They are not tame and pet like but I have never known them to be flighty. They seem very intelligent and independent but also self confident and steady. They readily recognize their keeper and if there is a routine figure it out right quick. Many times with many breeds two or more roosters will do fine as long as nothing changes like adding birds etc.. I believe Duane Urch said that with this breed he keeps several males with a group of hens. I imagine they have plenty of space. Long Horn, your birds look to have a pretty sweet deal.

Hi bantimna

My pullets temperament is the same as the males as they all seem to all get along good with each other.

Hi Hillside

My La Fleche are ok with me when I am feeding, watering & watching them foraging around as long as move around them at a very slow pace. There are times when I will be watching my Black La Fleche all foraging around ok but a bird can fly over or my wife & kids can walk out the back door of are house and the chickens start jumping & flying around and in a minute or two they all will be in their chicken house. Most times it only takes a few minutes and they will be out foraging again. To me they just seem to be a very active breed and I love watching them foraging around over a large area.

Hi Rare Feathers Farm

Neither of the two males or any of the females has shown any ill interest towards me.

I hope it stays that way.

The ones I had were flighty and would attack (the roosters that is) when I went to get eggs, feed or water...

Rare Feathers, that's a pretty clear example of not nice! I will say this is the first time anyone has ever said that about their La Fleche that I have heard of. Hope yours were exceptional. Since there are/have been La Fleche with Minorca infusion I kind of wonder if this might have been part of the picture? Not saying Minorca means something bad. We've had some that were very easy to have around. What I am thinking of though is our own Minorca infused stock in another breed that had very atypical temperaments compared to totaly pure stock.
